Yes, I really am still alive...

No real post for now, but I could use some advice.
I am currently looking to buy an external hard drive.  Any tips and/ or recommendations?  (I will probably also be buying a new computer in the not too distant future, so feel free to leave input on that also).  Thanks!

When I remember what brand my external hard drive is, I will let you know. Western Digital is the brand I would recommend first and foremost though; they make very good stuff. Chris has a WD external drive, and I don't think he's had any problems with it. I would have bought a WD if I could have, but when my computer was dying in Indiana last January, I couldn't wait for one to come in the mail from ordering online, and Best Buy was sold out of the 60GB Western Digital externals.

No real computer suggestions here though. I don't quite know enough for that. :(

Western Digital is a good brand, I'd recommend it too.

If you don't need it immediately, and have the luxury of shopping around a bit, try watching www.newegg.com and see if they have any deals. They generally have new ones weekly, and they are usually really decent prices.

I second Steph's NewEgg recommendation.

It also looks like I'm going to back up the Western Digital recommendation. My external hard drive (the Western Digital My Book) cost me around $150 and has something like a 500Gb capacity, if I'm remembering correctly. I got it a year or two ago, but it seems the price is still about the same.

I'm thinking my computer is going to take a (bigger) dive in the next year or so as well, so I'm making sure all my backups are relatively recent, i.e. sometime this year. It's slightly less critical now that I'm not in school, but it's still nice to have all my pictures and music.

I'm still pondering the Mac for my next computer. That might be coming up soon for me as well.
