Jer and I are ENGAGED!!! It's only been a few days so I'm still in shock and in La-La Land. I'm also trying to get used to the pretty, shiny rock on my finger!
It all started last Friday morning as I walked in to work and found Jer with my boss sitting in my exam room. I should have known something was up when the girls up front had these knowing smiles on their faces as I walked into the office. I looked at Jer. I looked at my boss. Was it Saturday? Why wasn't Jer at work?
I was just about to ask the two of them to leave the room because I needed to get started on my patients when Jer proceeds to tell me that he's taking me away 'somewhere' and that I have an hour and a half to go home and pack up my things. The best part is that my boss is more than happy to cover Friday and Saturday for me. Alright, off we go!
We drive down to Seattle airport where I find the destination to be....
We arrive to Phoenix and get a taxi to take us into Scotsdale where we stay at the Mondrian Hotel. The most hip/chic/modern hotel that I've ever stayed at.
Saturday was spent with my godmother who took us for brunch and to Scotsdale Fashion Square Mall...only the BEST mall ever!!! Nordstrom's semi-annual sale was great as well ^.~ Saturday's surprise was dinner at T. Cook's Restaurant at the Royal Palms Resort - the accommodation of choice for President Bush when he is in Scotsdale apparently. The food and service was wonderful. We sat out on the patio overlooking the garden and watched the sunset together. It was quite romantic (and HOT - temperature HOT!).
Since we were all dressed up with nowhere to go after dinner, I suggested to Jer we go check out the Scotsdale nightlife. Jer then told me that we should probably go to bed early since Sunday's surprise was going to be quite early. How early? hmmmmmmmmmm....4 am early? WHAT?!? I really had no clue what he had planned for us.
The next morning a van with a trailer comes to pick us up from the hotel lobby. Brian, the driver, lets us know that the ride to who-knows-where will be about 20 min and that we could just sit back and relax. I'm too excited to sleep. I want my surprise!!
As we approach our destination in the boonies, the driver's cell phone rings..."Hot Air Balloon Company," he answers. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Jer has planned an exclusive balloon ride for the two of us over the Arizona desert. Breathtaking!
We're up in the air and have been floating along for a while. There is a calm silence in the balloon as we both take in the serenity of our surroundings...and then IT happens. The tears flow. I don't hear half of the words he's saying to me. He gets down on one knee and presents...THE RING. I have to force myself to speak since I am in shock. I whisper, "Of course" and Jer sighs in relief that: (a) I accepted; and (b) he didn't drop the ring out of the balloon. The ring is beautiful and exactly what I wanted!!!
Thanks baby for such a wonderful weekend. The proposal was perfect and I couldn't have asked for anything more. You put so much effort and time to plan this weekend and it's scary how well you were able to keep it a surprise. I always thought I could read you like a book but you proved to me that you still have some tricks up your sleeve. I feel so lucky to have you as my groom-to-be. I LOVE YOU!
