parking in Oakland

Is there anywhere within, say, a 1-mile radius of the downtown Oakland Marriot (sort of near the 12th st BART) with free all-day parking?  Would I *find* anything there at 7:45/8am on a weekday? I haven't been there enough to know if all the street parking is metered or not and/or if there are 2-hour limits and such ( Read more... )

It isn't free but it is relatively cheap and close to the Marriot krakauer August 19 2011, 03:07:59 UTC
My co-workers park at one of the lots beneath the highway overpass at 5th street at Broadway (I think) and they generally pay $3 - $5 for all day parking. I am not sure what time they have to be out of there.

This isn't ideal but I believe there is a $1 lot on the far right side of Laney College.

If you are trying to park near City Center, it will be difficult to find a free lot. I do recommend the lot near City Hall on 14th and Clay. It's not as pricey as the lot under City Center.

So all the street parking is metered? I thought there might be streets on the edges that had free parking or something...

Thanks!

I actually stumbled upon one near a playground on... maybe 7th st? But most streets were metered, yeah.

Hubby worked at 1000 Broadway (they eventually closed his physical office in favor of telecommuting) and he never saw any free parking. He did note the above places for flat rate parking which are better than most other places downtown and a darn sight better than under City Center or meters. They are charging more for meters, and getting tight with enforcement, so tickets are common.
