Happy Yule to the Antipodeans, despite the lack of icon.

I saw an interesting reply to why, despite this being the astronomical centre of summer (Midsummer's Day, etc.), it's regarded as the beginning of summer. I've always wondered why a season starts at its solstice/equinox, when that should actually be the mid-point.
