A Little Scared

So my dad calls me last night after my sister told him she was buying a Scion... he was not happy. Why in the world she would choose to buy a random foreign car when she can get the A plan on a Ford is beyond me. I think she's stupid personally, but whatever, to each his own. There is a reason for this random rant though, my dad works at Ford and ( Read more... )

Funny thing about foreign cars. How far is Louisville from the Toyota plant in Kentucky? I worked ~30 miles north of Louisville after my freshman year where they made brakepads and brake boosters, for Toyota. Honda's been making Accords in Marysville, OH since '82 and Civics and Elements in East Liberty, OH since '89 ( ... )

I realized after posting this that it came off rather harsh. My father worked his entire career in the American automotive industry. It will be a very grave thing for all of the families affected when Ford potentially goes through with the layoff. If that time comes, my sympathies will go out to them.

Yeah... the Toyota plant is not even part of the UAW. They pretty much work for shit, I knew a lot of people back home whose parents had at one point worked there. But even so, the point was that all the profit goes over seas and doesn't really help the American economy.

Volkswagon is owned by Ford Motor Company now... shoulda asked me I might've been able to hook you up with the X-plan.

I have to assume you're confusing Volkswagen and Volvo...
I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to prove that Ford owns Volkswagen, and all I found out for sure is that Ford owns Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lincoln, and Mercury. Ford also has controlling interest in Mazda.
Volkswagen owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lambourghini (via Audi), Seat (spanish car maker), and has ties to Porsche.
Finding out who really owns who is complicated, but that info is from yahoo finance. Their info had today's date on it, unlike most stuff I saw.

As far as the UAW, maybe that's the problem? But then, we don't want to have a big union argument via your livejournal.
