Sam assumed the tingling sensation throughout her body was an after effect of the unfamiliar energy weapon the blue-clad aliens had used on her, Daniel, and Anise. So much for a friendly encounter. Daniel had barely begun his "peaceful explorers" speech when one of the four slender creatures who had entered the room occupied by SG-1 had twittered a short statement that ended in something that had sounded uncomfortably similar to "goa'uld". The cornflower-skinned alien closest to Daniel had activated some sort of energy weapon which had caused Daniel to stiffen briefly before he slumped bonelessly to the floor.
Sam had barely managed to raise her P-90 and shout, "We're under fire!" into her radio before the same energy weapon had been turned on Anise and herself. She remembered nothing after that.
sg_betty posted Hypothetical. She says it's a work in progress, but I'd say it's most satisfactorily complete. Cameron and Daniel friendship, post Ark of Truth.

This story deals with the repercussions of Daniel being alone for years in Nem's underwater lab until something occurs to trigger the rest of his team's memories.

sallymn recced Mine Eyes Have Seen by eve11, a spare, crystalline, harshly beautiful AU from Meridian, and yes, my favourite Stargate story of all I've read.
carlinjona (whose LJ name I just figured out, heh, since redial_the_gate is doing Beneath the Surface this week) recced True to Form by Jb. For me this is the ultimate SG1 HC Gen fic. It blew me away the first time I read it, and it is my standby, my comfort fic, the one I reach for when I want to wallow in the brilliance that is SG1.

After adding the coffee to the filter, he lifted the pot out of the sink, and promptly doubled over, the sudden pain in his stomach almost overwhelming. The glass shattered as the pot hit the floor, followed by the young archaeologist. His last conscious thought was that he knew how to translate the mystery text.

This "Heroes" fix delves into details that the episode didn't or couldn't cover more fully, including Sam's reaction to being accused of sleeping with her boss and the ethical implications of hiding scientific discoveries. It seems more realistic than the episode to me without losing any of the gravity.
suzannemarie recced Bad Pennies by troyswann. A MacGyver/SG-1 crossover that's joy.

He polled his brain for details of whatever mishap had put him back in the infirmary, and came up with a bigger blank than usual. PX-something, trees, a temple building, Carter babbling about energy signals... They could be mission memories, but they could equally well be SG-1's greatest hits. Nothing specific was swimming to the forefront.
thraesja recced Slow Burn by cleothemuse. Jack's POV on a mission that went south. PG-13. Jack and Daniel friendship, hurt/comfort.

He doesn't even try to look chagrined in the slightest. "Nooooo," he begins, dragging out the word in a way I know means I'm not going to like what's coming next. "Actually, you told me to get Sam and Teal'c to the Stargate. Which I did, then came back to get you."
samantilles recced Extra Mile by Joag. I love good gen ep tags, and Joag is also one of the masters of Danny whumping, another genre favorite of mine. And when the two come together, well its just goodness all around.
Daniel heard the wonder in her voice when she next said, "General, you came through the Stargate for us," and Daniel knew then she had never figured out they were on Earth.

randomfreshink recced two stories: Heracles Rising by Kikkimax/Roxie, which was the Winner 2004 Stargate Fan Awards: Best Gen Team Story, and is summed up as "Stranded on a wasted planet, SG-1 must rely on a race of nomadic space travelers for survival." But it's like a really good, long episode.
Choices Made by Elyse Dickenson, which has a good mystery, and odd aliens, and team, and is funny and scary and everything you want in a good story.

On a supposedly peaceful planet, Daniel leads a group of scientists, with green military support (there to bond as a team and get some experience with scientific missions) to investigate a possible Ancient site. Before they can figure out the secret, Daniel is faced with being the only experienced fighter when their position is attacked by Jaffa sent by the Goa'uld who used to rule the planet.
cleothemuse recced Ancient Legacy and its sequel Ancient Power, both by Denny J. Who doesn't love a super-powered Daniel?
Shameless Self-promotion
I also asked for "shameless self-promotion" - that authors link to a story of their own that readers would enjoy, with a sentence or two from the fic to serve as a teaser. In a few cases, when the supplied teaser was a little too long, I cut it down here.
tejas linked to two stories: Battle Cry. The team is caught in the middle of a civil war on a new planet and after being separated by the fighting, Daniel has to get a severely injured Jack back to the gate.
To this day I don't know how I did it. I used the last of the elastic bandages and our belts to wrap the sleeping bag as tightly around Jack's wound as possible. It was the only thing I could think of to keep from leaving a blood trail. We both stank of blood as it was, but after watching Teal'c and Jack track wounded enemies, I knew better than to leave an obvious trail. At the time, I'm always glad I know this stuff, but later, when I'm sitting safe at home, I find myself growing more and more alarmed at this new body of knowledge I'm acquiring.
Xeno-Stuff. It's from last year's "Daniel A to Z", I believe and I'm inordinately proud of it. Mostly because it makes me laugh.
I started getting a very bad feeling about what I couldn't remember. I've seen that twinkle in Janet's eyes. I don't trust it any farther than I can throw Teal'c.
"I have. I have? Janet, what aren't you telling me?" I felt pretty confident there's nothing terribly wrong with me. Janet wouldn't be teasing me if I was dying or purple or, wait. She would tease me if I was purple. I took a quick look at my hand. Okay normal color.
uniquinum linked to Y is for Yield. My contribution to the Teal'c alphabet Soup.
Exploring with his teammates became not just a job, a way to defeat the false Gods or to rescue Sha're and Skarra, it was a joy. It proved to him that life prevailed and nothing could stamp down the purest things that life and the universe had to offer. They, like every other creature in the universe was deeply flawed and yet he was more than willing to overlook O'Neill's impatience and sarcastic nature, Daniel Jackson's innate mulishness and one track mindedness, and finally the belief Captain Carter carried that she somehow had something to prove that she would never be good enough, he was well aware that should any of them be anything other than what they truly are they may not have been as successful as they were.

Jack, Teal'c, Sam, and Daniel looked at one another. Silent communication passed rapidly between them, aided only by minute hand gestures - a few regulation Air Force ones, a few unique to SG-1, and at least two that were obscene.

"Colonel." That was Hammond, still in command, still trying to guide the most surreal briefing they'd had for... oh, at least three weeks, wasn't it? And as always trying to stop Jack from saying something they'd all regret in front of the alien VIPs. He never succeeded, but Jack had to give him points for trying.
carlinjona linked to The Sun on the Horizon. It's novel sized, a proposed four book set of stories starting with Daniel kidnapped and tossed into a lovely web of intrigue. There's lots of HC, action, mythology given an SG twist, and many familiar faces mixed with new ones. Books one and two are done.
Dawn broke. Daniel tore his eyes from the living and stared, desperately, fervently, at the frozen image of a dead human, made a god by pretenders to that same title.
Eshmun stared out over the writhing sea of human bodies, sightless eyes encompassing far horizons and truths, buried in the passage of time. For a moment, Daniel felt the statue’s eyes upon him and the paths of two lost travellers inextricably merged into one.

The packet of chocolate cookies, hidden in her cupboard, were still within the use-by date, and she opened them up. She bit into one; they were Daniel’s favourite flavour, chocolate walnut. Or they used to be his favourite flavour, she wondered bitterly if that’d changed too since he’d descended.

“Well, you are small for your age,” Sam agreed dryly. She sat with her chin propped in one hand and the other fussing with the large hem of her shirt sleeve.

Apophis attacks his home when he's fourteen, the Abydos 'gate is buried, and he ends up stranded on Earth but determined to join the SGC's cause.
"Sir," Jack said, "I regret to inform you that Claire and Melburn Jackson were killed in the attack on Abydos. They are survived by their son, Daniel, who was kidnapped by the aliens, along with two of the native Abydons."
(Adding a personal note here: I adore this AU beyond reason. This is not kidfic, although kidfic fans will enjoy it, too. Go read this long and incredible series of stories right now.)

His immediate impulse - to say out loud, "What's this?", and to start reading - was curbed when he saw the names on the sheet. Glancing behind him to where the Colonel and Teal'c were changing, he swiftly folded the sheet and tucked it casually into his pocket.
