Summary: John, Ronon, and Teyla are sent to Marnaria to make final adjustments on the new treaty, however, soon they find themselves in a bit of a bind.

---

Elizabeth closed her eyes once Carson was finished. She had taken too long to negotiate their release and now three of her friends were lying in the infirmary. It seemed like only yesterday that John, Ronon, and Teyla had left for Manaria, one of their newest allies.

Rodney had been working on the final upgrades on their computer system so he didn't join his team. He said it was only some boring meeting to discuss their alliance. Little did he know it was far from boring.

From what the Atlanteans knew, everything was going as planned when the team entered the council chambers. When the 'Gate was activated not even an hour after they left, Elizabeth was concerned because no teams were due back. It worried her even more when she saw the address.

Somehow John and his team were being accused of working to overthrow their tribunal government. She was confused and angry as to why these people would think of such a thing. She also realized that there were times when her people went to these worlds and inadvertently offended them.

Most of the time everything worked out in the end, but that wasn't the case here. When Elizabeth was finally able to negotiate their release, John had been shot in the knee, a concussion, and various cuts and bruises. Ronon and Teyla were both suffering from infected wounds and had become feverish.

"Ronon and Teyla are resting right now and John is still unconscious," Carson said as a nurse came over to him.

"Dr. Beckett, Colonel Sheppard is awake."

He nodded. "Thanks, love. Lets see how our patient is doing."

Rodney and Elizabeth followed Carson to where John was. The bruises on his face stood out against his deathly pale skin. "Colonel, it's Carson. Do you know where you are?"

"Infirmary," John replied groggily. "Water?"

Carson reached over for the glass and John drank from the straw. Once he was finished, the physician said, "How are you feeling right now?"

"A little... a lot sore. I have a concussion, don't I?"

Rodney shook his head. "It's scary how you can tell these things before being diagnosed."

"What can I say, it's a gift."

"More like a curse!" Rodney said.

"Whatever. Are Ronon and Teyla okay?"

"Their wounds were infected," Carson said, "but once the fever goes down they'll both be all right."

John shut his eyes as the memory of what happened washed over him. When he opened them, his friends were staring at him with worried expressions on their faces. "Sorry, just remembering."

"Do you think you could tell us what happened?" Elizabeth asked.

John nodded and he began...

The arrival to Manaria was not like they had expected. There was no one waiting for them at the 'Gate per their President's protocol. That was the only thing that seemed to be amiss, but John didn't want to chance going into the city just yet. Visitors weren't allowed within 100 feet of it until they had been properly greeted at the 'Gate.

Ronon looked around and suddenly he tensed. "What is it?" John asked.

"Something isn't right."

"I feel it too," Teyla replied.

Before any of them had a chance to move, There was a bright flash of light and they dropped to the ground unconscious.

They woke up in separate cells. John shook his head to try and stop the ringing he was hearing. "You guys okay?" he asked, leaning against the wall. Whatever they were blasted with packed quite a punch.

"Yes, John," Teyla replied.

"Yeah. You?"

John took a breath and shrugged. "For the most part. What the hell is going on?"

His question was about to be answered as the door to his cell opened. John immediately stood up as he recognized the man who had entered. "Colonel Sheppard, if you would come with me, please."

John knew this wasn't going to be a social call. With one last glance and Ronon and Teyla, he followed the chief of police. John was led down the hall to a larger, empty room. They had him stand in the middle of the it then left him alone.

He was about to make some snarky comment when he heard a voice over speakers. "Colonel Sheppard, it has come to our attention that you and your team have been conspiring to take over our government with a local faction. How do you plead?"

What the hell? John thought. Aloud he said, "Not guilty! Look we're just here to finalize the alliance our leader set up with yours. You know, the last minute details and all."

"We were not aware of such a meeting, Colonel."

"You contacted us via the Stargate yesterday afternoon. We were told you wanted..."

"Silence!" the disembodied voice said. "We did no such thing! We know you were here to overthrow our government and for that you will all be severely punished!"

John held up his hands. "Wait! Just wait! I don't know what we did, but if you have to punish anyone, just punish me. The others only act under my orders."

"We will consider your request, Colonel Sheppard."

There was another flash of light and John lost consciousness again. He was waking up to Teyla saying his name. For some reason that flash was a lot worse the second time around and he didn't know why.

Before replying, he put a hand to his head and that's when he felt something wet and sticky. John was a bit alarmed to see his hand come away with blood on it. "What the hell?"

"John, are you all right?" Teyla asked, worry in her voice.

His movements were a bit sluggish as he attempted to sit up. A wave of nausea prevented him from doing so. John stilled and closed his eyes, taking deep breaths to quell it. Once he opened them again, he carefully turned his head to face Teyla.

"What happened?"

"You do not remember?" she asked. "You were brought back barely conscious and attempted to fight the guards."

Ronon continued, "You were doing pretty well until they hit you with a club."

"Oh yeah... I vaguely remember fighting someone."

"John," Teyla said. "You were gone quite awhile. Do you remember what they wanted?"

He was finally able to sit up without getting too dizzy or nauseated, then scooted up against the wall. "Apparently we're trying to overthrow their government."

"What?" Ronon growled.

"My thoughts exactly. The council didn't contact us so I'm thinking it was one of the other factions they had mentioned on our first visit. Remember, the ones who approached me about helping them. Of course I said no and told the President. I guess he didn't believe me when I told him we would never entertain the thought."

Just then five more guards came. Two went to Teyla's cell and two went to Ronon's while the third went to John's. As the men held a gun on him, he watched helplessly as his friends were taken away.

"What's going on?" John asked, glaring at the guard in front of him.

"The President wants to see them. Oh, and this is a gift from the chief of police."

There was a loud gunshot and before John even knew what was happening, a sharp pain slammed into his knee and he dropped to the ground. The man laughed as he left John alone to fend for himself.

John had a sprained knee before but he'd never been shot there. It was one of the most painful things he'd ever experienced and he had a high threshold. Tears squeezed through his closed eyes as he tried to breath through it, wishing the pain would ebb away.

For the fourth time since he'd been captured, John lost consciousness.

When he woke up again he found that he was still in the same spot, he had stopped bleeding, the pain was just as bad as ever, and Ronon and Teyla were still missing from their cells. John had no idea what time it was or how long he'd been lying there.

He was just glad Rodney had decided not to come. John couldn't bear his friend having to go through this crap. It was bad enough he, Ronon and Teyla had to!

John's eyelids fluttered opened as he heard someone unlocking his cell. "Seriously," he said, closing his eyes again. "You guys might just wanna kill me now because when I'm feeling better I'm gonna kick your asses."

"You get on my nerves, Sheppard, but I wouldn't kill you!"

"Ronon?"

"Yeah," the Satedan replied, ripping off a piece of his shirt. "Looks like you had more fun than us."

"Us... Where's Teyla?"

Ronon glanced behind at the man who had opened the cell. "She's heading back to Atlantis right now with Elizabeth. She was able to get us out of here when Lorne and his men figured out what happened. They wouldn't let any of our people down here except me since I've already been."

John grunted as Ronon helped him to a seated position. "I'll hear about the rest later, my leg is killing me!"

"Right," Ronon replied, clearly surprised that John had even said that.

"The last thing I remember is waking up here."

Carson could tell John was masking the pain he felt. "Good, because you need to get some rest. I'll send Elizabeth back when you wake up again and she can tell you what happened with the negotiations."

Elizabeth smiled. "You just concentrate on getting well, John."

"I will," he replied. "Oh and thanks. For negotiating for us and all."

"No thanks are needed, John."

When Elizabeth left the room, Rodney shook his head. "She's putting up a brave face in front of you, but she was freaked out."

"Aye, that she was," Carson said with a nod. "But we're not going to talk about that now, Rodney. Out with you!"

"I know when I'm not wanted!" he told Carson, muttering under his breath about Voodoo doctors.

Now that her team was safely back in Atlantis, Elizabeth was heading to her quarters for some much needed rest. She was almost there when her radio beeped. "Go ahead."

"Elizabeth, you need to get down here. I've already sent for Lorne, but Ronon and Teyla have gone crazy and are tearing up the place looking for Sheppard. Carson says they're hallucinating from their fevers."

She took a deep breath as she replied, "I'm on my way!"

When she arrived, Ronon and Teyla were standing back to back, each holding a gun from the two Airman who had come down in response and were now unconscious. Lorne was with Rodney and Carson trying to convince them that John was okay.

She moved beside Rodney. "I'm assuming you said you could show them John's okay?"

Rodney nodded. "Yeah, but they don't believe we'll take them to him."

"That's right," Ronon said, anger in his eyes. "You people tortured us and shot him so we don't really believe anything you have to say."

Elizabeth took a small step towards him, hands held up. "Ronon, it's Elizabeth. You're back in Atlantis, can't you see that?"

"Elizabeth would not have separated us from John!" Teyla replied.

"We didn't separate you, I promise," Carson told her. He pointed to John's room. "We'll stay right here with one of you if the other wants to check on him."

Teyla regarded Ronon for a moment and he nodded. She walked backward towards the room and came out a moment later. "John is there, Ronon. He is alive!"

She stumbled and Carson went to catch her. Fortunately Ronon got dizzy as well and he dropped his weapon. "Lets get the two of you back to bed," Carson said.

A few days later Ronon and Teyla were feeling much better. They had just been released from Carson's care and had joined Rodney and Elizabeth in John's room. He had at least another day with the physician.

"So now you guys know what I've been up to," John said. "Where'd they take you?"

"They took us to this chief of police. I believe his name was Shane." At Ronon's nod she continued. "He said he was no longer part of the tribunal government and he was using us to hide the fact that he was the one who wanted to overthrow it to begin with. Needless to say, Ronon wasn't very happy and charged at him."

Ronon sighed, glancing at Teyla. "It didn't work."

"What happened?" Rodney asked.

"They cut Teyla pretty good for it, so I stopped."

She nodded. "They did not return us to our cells," Teyla told them. "They kept telling us John was dead, and at first we believed them since we had heard the gunshot."

"Teyla told me I should keep trying to pick fights with them and eventually they got sick of it and nearly sliced my arm off."

"I believe that is when word came down that we were going to be released. Shane was able to get away but the actual government would not allow anyone else down there because of his faction, so I was brought to Elizabeth while Ronon went to find John."

Rodney shook his head in disbelief. "And we're still planning on being allies with these people?"

"No, Rodney," Elizabeth replied. "At least not until they can get their own government in order."

John nodded. "Good because I don't like being taken prisoner and shot in the knee! So, are you going to tell us how you negotiated us out of there?"

"Well," Elizabeth said with a smile. "It was just a matter of convincing the President to allow us to investigate the situation ourselves. Major Lorne and Rodney were able to learn that Shane was up to his ears in plans to overthrow the government. Luckily they were able to find evidence, as well as people who were willing to testify against the man."

"We are in your debt, Rodney," Teyla told him.

He smirked. "Oh really...?"

John and Ronon both glared at Teyla. "This is going to be bad," John replied with a sigh.

Rodney didn't think so.
