John entered the weight room looking to get some exercise in. He found Kip to be the only other person in the room and nodded at her as headed over to the free weights.
Kip looked up at the *swoosh!* of the door and nodded her reply to John, before turning back to finish her mile. Only 400 yards left... She adjusted the speed a little higher as she sprinted now, running the final leg of the mile as if her life depended on it.
The machine beeped as it finished the designated distance and began its cool-down cycle, forcing Kip to jog herself off of the adrenaline high. The microbiologist stepped off the back of the machine, breathing evenly through her nose as she put her hands on her hips and walked around that side of the room for a moment.
"So, Colonel," she sighed as she adjusted the height of the seat for the abdominal machine before sitting down (why was everyone on base so goddamned tall?) and setting the weight to 70lb, "how's it been?"
John continued lifting as he responded. "Pretty good, thanks. At least I haven't had to listen to Rodney rant on and on about something that's way over my head for awhile." He paused. "I just jinxed myself, didn't I?"
Kip snorted as she gripped the handles over her shoulders and began the sort of upright crunches the machine enforced. "Yeah, probably. I had to put up with him rambling about the his superiority and shit about his brain combined with the ancient gene and what not. Got him to shut up though after I told him he wouldn't have is 'fake' gene if it weren't for my research." A slow, smug grin curved her lips. "It's always a great feeling to shut up Rodney McKay, 'specially when it's from -- how did he put it? -- a 'twirp' like me." So yeah, she was the youngest member of the expedition, a year or so younger than Keller. Big whup.
