Great action fic and a great tribute to Ford as well. I've always felt it was a shame they didn't give his character a proper ending, leaving us with a handwavy 'he died on the hive, probably' instead. Glad you were able to do so, and with a believable explanation for him surviving the hive explosion too - unlike most other fics I've read in the past that deal with Ford post-The Hive.
Oh yes! The dangling plot line of his story has always annoyed me and drove me to write this one.
The first thing I did, when I decided to write this, was to sit down and figure out a plausible way for him to have escaped the hive. Nothing else could happen unless I could resolve that. ;) Once that was done, it was all downhill from there!
I read this story a few weeks ago and have been meaning to come back and comment. I really enjoyed this, and as usual, your excellent portrayal of the characters. I wish the series had given closure on Ford's character the way you have here. It was very fitting, and fit well with the characters and the overall story arc of Ford and Atlantis. Agreed - I have a hard time seeing how his story wouldn't have ended with his death, but it was like reading a whole book and know what direction it was going in, but never actually reading the last chapter. I feel like I have a bit of that with Ford here! Thanks for the story! Thrilled you're still writing them for us to enjoy!
Thank you so much! It always rubbed me that Ford's storyline was never resolved, only hand-waved that he "must've died on the hive"... or something. :/
So glad you enjoyed it! Sad story to write (and a hard one with the fighting logistics to consider) but I have a certain level of gratification that I can check that one off my list. Crack!Ford was hard to get right, I did go back and re-watch Siege III, Runner, Lost Boys and The Hive to recapture a sense of the character, that helped.
Thanks again, and for the review too! Great to know people still want to read the stuff I write even after 10 years! ;)
