Sympathy for Eve series. When Rodney gets turned into a woman for a month, he decides to experiment, but little did he know it could have unforeseen consequences. Set somewhere in a nebulous third season after any cliffhanger-y stuff has been resolved.

The next order of business had been to tell their respective staffs and Ronon, the one member of Rodney's team who hadn't been at the staff meeting. Because he knew the news would spread quickly, Rodney decided to simply call and ask Ronon to meet him in the morning science staff meeting. As soon as he had arrived, looking distinctly out of place in his leathers among all the lab coats and blue shirts, Rodney launched into a similar speech to that which he'd given at the senior staff meeting.
The revelation of his relationship to Carson didn't raise a single eyebrow. The announcement of his pregnancy caused some excited murmurings, but only a few faces registered the stunned shock he'd been expecting.
"Due to the, ah, unusual nature of this pregnancy, it is our plan that I should remain here where we have access to Ancient medical technology, as well as the Ancient database, the city systems, and the device which caused the temporary sex-change in the first place. I'm going to be continuing my duties here in Atlantis as much as possible, but due to health concerns will be avoiding leaving the central areas of the city except in emergency. That means others are going to have to pick up the slack and not call me for every stupid little problem." He glared quite convincingly and everyone nodded.
"Are there any questions?" Carson asked.
Miko shyly raised her hand. "How far along is pregnancy?"
"About nine weeks," Carson answered.
Kavanagh looked confused. "Wait. Does that even work?"
Rodney rolled his eyes. "Pregnancy weeks are counted from last menstrual cycle, since the time of conception is very rarely known. What else?"
"Are you planning to stay here after the child is born?" Simpson asked.
"Yes. People all over the Pegasus Galaxy bear children every day. Atlantis is one of the most secure places for a child to grow up in this galaxy. I don't see any reason not to continue my work."
Ronon raised his hand, imitating Miko's earlier gesture. "How does it get out?"
There were shocked looks at his straightforward question. Carson smiled. "We'll either need to use the device to make Rodney female again or do a surgery called a Cesarean section where the baby is removed through a surgical incision."
Ronon grunted, nodding. "Okay. Well, good luck with that. If you need anything, just ask," he said and then turned and walked out.

The medical staff descended on Rodney like a swarm, wanting to touch, see, feel, asking questions over one another faster than Carson could answer them.
Rodney was due for his first pre-natal exam anyway and soon found himself the subject of an impromptu lecture. He was surrounded by happy, chattering doctors and nurses until Carson flipped a switch and the infirmary filled with the sound of a heartbeat, impossible and awesome, and every voice stilled just to listen to it.
"Rodney, love," Carson said quietly after several minutes, "do ye want to know the sex?"
"You can tell?" Rodney asked, whispering.
"Oh, aye. The scanner can show a great deal if you know what to look for."
Rodney considered for a moment. "Okay, yeah, I want to know."
Carson leaned down and whispered in his lover's ear.
"Really?" Rodney asked. He seemed to be mulling the news over, but his mouth was slowly turning up at the corners. "Wow."

Your baby is between 22 and 30 millimeters long and weighs around 4 grams.
Rodney sat back, his hand going to his abdomen, contemplating the life within him. He'd started out with his pregnancy's current week, but as he read through decided he wanted a better overview of what had already passed. He paged back to week 1.
You're still having your menstrual period and your baby has not yet been conceived...
He quickly paged to the next week.
At the end of this week, an egg will be released into your fallopian tube...
He scanned down the page and paused as he read the words When your partner ejaculates, millions of sperm travel from the vagina to the fallopian tube where your egg is waiting.
He closed his eyes, shivering at the memory of Carson throbbing into his female body.
Their first joining had been embarrassed and fumbling. Despite Carson's efforts to stretch Rodney out and Rodney's attempts to keep Carson aroused, it had been physically uncomfortable for Rodney and, he suspected, psychologically so for Carson. Their second had been barely better. If he hadn't known there were better things coming, he might very well have given up. Their third had been surprisingly good and with that success under their belts, they'd relaxed and enjoyed it more. Whenever he read or heard Carson speak of conception, he always pictured that fourth time, his lover stroking into soft, giving flesh, a ghost of a memory now.
A part of Carson was still there, within him, he thought, absently rubbing his tummy and feeling a sudden heat at that thought.

"Your ankle's not healing quickly because ye won't stay off it," Carson lectured the Marine. "It isn't macho to have to stay on crutches an extra week. Now, you stay off it, or I'll arrange to have you strapped to an infirmary bed, and don't think I won't do it, son."
The Marine muttered something apologetic and Carson turned away to see Rodney standing and admiring him.
"Rodney, what-- Mmgff!"
Rodney pushed him back against a set of shelves, body pressed against him, apparently intent on devouring him, unmindful of the boxes of gauze and bandages that tumbled off from their impact. Carson had a moment of startlement, then melted into Rodney's kiss, eyes dropping closed as his mouth opened and his hands slipped around Rodney's body.
The hustle of the infirmary faded into the warmth of their embrace, the sweetness of the kiss, and the beating of their hearts. It was a long time before they parted, gasping for breath.
"Um. And I'm glad to see you, too, Rodney," Carson said, smiling at his lover.
Rodney leaned their foreheads together, hand curled around the back of Carson's neck. "Can you leave for a while?"
Carson didn't ask why, just nodded ever so slightly. "I'm going to lunch," he said in the general direction of Biro and nurse Allison.
"Take your time," Biro answered, turning away before he could see the grin that split her face.
"Come on, then, love."
"So, what's on the menu?" Allison asked as they disappeared through the door.
"In their particular case?" Biro said. "I think Carson is."
