Sympathy for Eve series. When Rodney gets turned into a woman for a month, he decides to experiment, but little did he know it could have unforeseen consequences. Set somewhere in a nebulous third season after any cliffhanger-y stuff has been resolved.

Carson stared at the blood test results, running his hand through his hair.
Kelly considered him. "Are you going to tell Doctor McKay?"
"Maternal serum screening is rather inaccurate. Very few babies who test at a high risk for Down's with this are born with it. I don't see any reason to tell him until we've confirmed it with an amniocentesis."
"Isn't he going to get suspicious?"
Carson shrugged. "It's not like he's gone through this before, and in his case a little extra caution is warranted at any rate."
"Should I prepare for an amnio, then?"
Carson shook his head. "Not till the abruption is cleared up. I don't want to risk it until then. And, well, if it doesn't clear, there's little point..."
Kelly squeezed his shoulder. "I'm sure it'll be okay."

"Huh," Rodney said.
"What?" John asked, not looking up from the report he was reading.
"Doctor Kusanagi's work. She not only fixed the problem, but actually improved the formulas we were using. I've been meaning to work on this-- never got around to it."
"Cool," John said, smiling secretly to himself.

"What are you reading?" Rodney asked.
Carson started and made sure the computer was turned so that his lover couldn't see it. "Medical journals," he lied.
"Must be something a bit unsettling from the way you were looking."
Carson shrugged, closing the article on Down's syndrome. "I just have to wonder about some of these researchers' ethics is all."

The sounds of the market swirled around them. There were some Ancient devices which had Dr. Schmidt excited, but John was stopped in front of a booth with various textiles for sale. He fingered the blanket, decorated in pastel geometric shapes. It was the softest thing he had ever felt.
Ronon stopped behind him. "Nice."
The booth owner swooped down on them. "Ah, yes. The softest of blankets and the finest quality. You have a good eye. Are you the expectant father?"
"No. It's, uh, for some friends of mine. They're naming him after me."
The trader smiled widely. "Ah, that is truly a great honour. A child bearing your name should be wrapped and dressed in only the finest! Here, let me show you some other items that might possibly be of interest."

"You're going to worry yourself into an ulcer over nothing," Heightmeyer said.
Carson sighed. "You're right. I know the serum tests are horribly inaccurate. But I just... I can't help but worry."
"All right, let's suppose that it turns out to be true. What then?"
Carson considered. "Then we're back to square one, I suppose, with Rodney deciding whether he wants to have this baby or not."
She considered him. "It really bothers you, doesn't it-- losing control?"
Carson looked at her, startled.
"You know, honestly, there's so little we truly have control over, Carson. You would do better expending your energies in the present, on things you do have control over, rather than worrying about things you can't change that might never come to pass."

Elizabeth studied Schmidt's purchases, nodding in approval. "Excellent. Get these to the labs right away and these to the linguists." She then started to unwrap another bundle. "What's all this?"
John jumped forward and scooped the bundle up. "That's mine."
"Yours?"
He gave her a shy smile. "For the baby. Don't tell Rodney and Carson!"
She shook her head. "I won't. Can I see? What did you trade for it?"
"Duct tape and chocolate," John answered, opening the bundle. "And Ronon traded one of his hair knives for these," he said, pulling a pair of soft leather booties out of the bundle. "You've got to see this blanket. Oh, and this outfit I got and this little stuffed... well, something like a rabbit..."
Elizabeth watched him, feeling the loss of a compatriot in some strange way.

Rodney eyed the impossibly long needle suspiciously. "Can't you just use the Ancient scanner?"
"For most things, yes," Carson answered. "But I need to run some... standard tests that require a cell sample."
"It's safe, though, right?"
"Very low risk," Carson answered.
Rodney raised his eyebrows. "Low risk, but not no risk?"
"Rodney, there are always risks, but this is an extremely safe procedure and necessary for the tests I need to run."
"What sort of tests?"
Carson sighed. "I plan to run a battery of tests to look for chromosomal abnormalities, neural tube defects, cystic fibrosis and some other genetic disorders. I'll probably check for the presence of the ATA gene as well, since we don't know how Ancient technology would respond to an infant bearing the gene, I expect it's better to be forewarned."
"Huh. Hadn't thought of that. That's a good idea, Carson."
"I have them once in a while, love," Carson answered, glad that Rodney was focusing on that part. "And after this test, you should rest for an hour, and then we'll release you."

"You're kidding! McKay?" John asked.
Miko giggled, looking shyly into her tea. "Well, yes, but once he questioned worth of my diplomas for the twentieth time, I got over it."
"I can see that," John admitted.
"Oh, I almost forgot!" she said, and shuffled through the papers on her desk, till she pulled out a disk. Across it was written "Area 88."
"Cool! You got it back."
"Did you want to borrow it?"
"It's in Japanese, right?"
"There are subtitles," she said.
"How good are the subtitles?"
She shrugged.
"Maybe you'd like to watch it with me, so you can tell me when they're butchering the dialogue."
She looked away from him. "Oh! I... Yes, I would like that."
He grinned. "It's a date, then."

"Home," Rodney sighed as the door to their apartment closed behind him.
Carson slipped his arms around him. "Aye, home. And with our little Johnnie safe and sound."
They kissed slowly, tentatively until Rodney drew back. "I want... Is... Is it safe?"
"Is what safe, love?"
"Well, er, sex."
Carson smiled and chuckled. "Yes, quite safe. Come on, love."
And he led his lover into the bedroom and proceeded to show him how safe it was.
