"Me?" Radek asked.

"Well, yeah. Rodney says you're second only to him on Ancient technology. I've looked over your record. You served in the Czechoslovakian army, so you've got weapons experience."

Radek's face darkened at the mention of his military training. "That was half my lifetime ago."

"You qualified for carrying a sidearm during the siege. Hell, you qualified higher than Rodney."

"What about Doctor Schmidt?"

"He and Ronon haven't been getting on well. He's looking at joining Crown's team now that Pendergast is heading home."

Radek considered him. "And you think Ronon and I will get along better?"

"You seem to," John answered.

"What if I say no?"

"Probably talk to Simpson." John shrugged. "Look, I don't need your answer right away. Just think about it."

Rodney dropped into the seat across the table from John and wiped at a forehead dotted with sweat.

John looked up and grinned. "Hey, you made it!"

"No thanks to your namesake," Rodney grumbled. "My back is killing me. You know what? I officially forgive my mother for all the crap she put me through, because this whole pregnancy thing is murder."

Teyla smiled serenely. "It can be difficult."

John considered Teyla, wanting to ask, but too afraid. He looked across and noticed Rodney's eyes shining as he looked at Teyla. "I hear there's a real baby boom on the mainland," John said instead.

She nodded. "My people do not have the luxury of waiting for the most opportune time. Most Athosian women have their first child at sixteen or seventeen, with the fathers being seventeen or eighteen. If we are fortunate, we will see our grandchildren."

"Hard life," John said, making contrails in his mashed potatoes.

"It is not uncommon on the worlds of this galaxy," she said.

Ronon grunted around a sandwich. "It was the same on Sateda."

"We must seem very strange to you," John said.

Teyla's smile seemed a little forced. "I will admit that Doctor McKay's pregnancy has been seen as a sign by my people. We are hoping to see many more."

"Not likely anytime soon," Rodney muttered.

"Why not?" Ronon asked.

"Pregnancy's discouraged on Atlantis," John answered. "Those in authority don't want us distracted from our work here."

"Surely you can see how that is a worrisome attitude to potential allies?" Teyla asked.

"How so?" John asked.

"Nothing to keep you here," Ronon answered.

Teyla nodded. "You are seen as having no true investment in this galaxy. You can easily return to Earth and abandon us all here."

"But we do feel invested here," John said.

Ronon snorted. "Prove it."

"You aren't sitting with Colonel Sheppard today?" Simpson asked as she sat down with Miko, nodding to Radek and Kavanagh.

Miko blushed. "It is team lunch today."

"Ah, I see." Simpson nodded, then leaned forward. "So, you two...?"

"Please," Kavanagh said, rolling his eyes. "I don't need my lunch ruined by girl talk about how 'cute' and 'sweet' and 'sexy' Colonel Sheppard is." He used a soft, breathless tone when he spoke the adjectives. "Nor do I want to hear any more intimate details about him."

Simpson huffed. "Fine. We'll just talk about it in the lab, then."

"No, you won't," Kavanagh said. "You can't yak and work."

"Kavanagh!" Radek chided.

"Simpson's in my department. My rules."

Simpson sighed. "Dinner?" she asked Miko.

Miko blushed. "I can't. Colonel Sheppard is taking me on a picnic."

"Ooo!" Simpson squealed. "That's so romantic!"

Kavanagh sighed. "Yet another case of the muscled idiot bad boy winning out over brains. I fail to understand the appeal."

"Maybe if you'd try being nice for a change, you'd have a chance," Simpson shot back.

"All that happens then is that people walk all over you," Kavanagh answered. "It gets you nowhere."

"If you consider bed to be nowhere," Radek answered.

"Yeah, like you've gotten laid lately." He froze as a smug smile tugged at Radek's lips before the Czech replaced it with a neutral look. "Oh, that is... so much more than I needed to know."

"Ye wanted to see us?" Carson asked.

Elizabeth nodded. "Sit down, gentlemen." She handed them some forms.

"Massachusetts?" Rodney asked.

Elizabeth nodded. "Both of your records have been modified to establish that you've been working for the United States government in the state of Massachusetts for the past three years and are, in fact, still there."

"I don't understand," Carson said.

"A Canadian citizen can marry overseas if the marriage is recognised in that country. Same-sex marriages are legal in Massachusetts just as they are in Canada, but require a one-year residency. Welcome to Massachusetts."

Rodney grinned. "Wow. Thank you, Elizabeth." He glanced down at a document titled Statements In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad. "This must have taken the SGC a bit of work."

"It did, but the threat of losing the heads of both the science and medical divisions was a significant motivation."

Rodney shifted uncomfortably at the reminder of how they'd forced her hand in the matter. "So, what now?"

"You fill out the application for the marriage license, the non-impediment certificate, have me file them and get yourself married within sixty days of my filing the forms. I'm legally authorised to marry you. Lieutenant Martins-- the chaplain-- and a few other expedition members are also clergy if you would rather have a religious ceremony. I can provide names."

The two men exchanged looks. "We'll need to discuss this," Carson said.

"I understand," she nodded.

"Thank you again," Carson said as they stood.

She watched them walk out and sighed.

Miko shivered slightly as the breeze came off the sea.

"Here," John said, shifting, slipping his arms around her. They both settled back down on the blanket. "Better?"

"Yes, thank you, C- John."

John smiled and pointed. "That cluster there. See it? It looks kind of like a knight to me. See, those four stars make the sword and those three the arm."

"Oh, yes, I see." She shifted slightly and pointed. "Those seven... eight stars there, they look like a torii."

"A what?"

"The gate you see before Shinto shrines."

"Oh, the pi-shaped thingies."

She laughed. "Yes. Those."

"What are those torii for, anyway?" he asked.

"They separate the living world from the world of the kami, the gods."

"I see. So, which side of that torii do you suppose we're on?"

"Mmmm. It's a good question." She settled against him and sighed. "We should write down these constellations."

"I wonder what other people see. We should have everyone write down their personal constellations."

"The anthropologists would love that," she said. "You should suggest it to them."

He chuckled. "I can hear Rodney now."

She giggled. "'Why are you wasting my time with this? They're just spheres of burning gas. Squishy science voodoo!'"

He laughed. "You spend way too much time with McKay!"

"True. But you! You are a mystery. You willingly spend time with him!"

"He's not so bad," John said.

"It is an unlikely friendship," she said. "But I think he needs it."

John shrugged.

"Perhaps you also need him?"

"He expects people to use their brains. There are worse traits."

"And others expect you to be the muscle-bound idiot."

"Something like that."

She curled closer to him. "I like that you are thoughtful and intelligent. It... brings us together-- the military and the scientists."

"Well, I'm all for together." He shifted so he could look at her, cupped her face, and kissed her.

Miko melted against him and returned the kiss eagerly.

Rodney stood staring at his nude body in the mirror. His chest had expanded slightly, veins crisscrossing it, the nipples darkened. His protruding belly was topped by a belly button that was now popped out. "Have I mentioned how much I hate you lately?" he asked Carson.

His lover chuckled and slipped behind him, wrapping arms around him and kissing the back of his neck. "You're beautiful, love."

"Men aren't supposed to be beautiful."

"They aren't supposed to bear babies, either. And, to me, men can certainly be beautiful."

Rodney watched as his lover's hand skated down over his belly and into the dark curls below. He felt himself hardening at Carson's teasing touches. "Oh, yeah, love that... Love you."

"Thought you hated me, love," Carson teased, nuzzling his neck.

"Yeah, well..." Rodney groaned as Carson wrapped his hand around him and began slowly stroking.

Carson pressed closer, his erection slipping between Rodney's asscheeks. He moaned and took up the rhythm of his stroking with gentle thrusts. The two fell silent for a while, other than the occasional gasp or moan, as Carson pleasured them both while nuzzling, licking, and sucking Rodney's shoulders, neck, and throat.

"Rodney," Carson whispered.

"Hm?"

"I'd like you in me tonight. Will you do that for me?"

Rodney shuddered. "God, yes!"

Carson sighed and turned Rodney, kissing him hard. "Bed, then."

They quickly moved to the bed where they curled together, kissing, while Rodney fumbled the lube open. As they continued to kiss, Rodney slicked up his fingers and prepared Carson, swallowing his lover's moans as his fingers stroked in and out.

"Need you, love," Carson whimpered.

"Okay," Rodney nodded, shifting to kneel between Carson's thighs, draping his lover's ankles over his shoulders, slicking himself up. "Ready?" he asked.

"Yes. God, yes. Ah, love!" Carson's body arched as Rodney pushed into him.

Rodney paused, already panting. "You okay?"

"Oh, aye. Just take me, please."

Rodney pushed forward, slowly burying himself in Carson's willing body. He withdrew just as slowly and then pushed in again, setting an excruciatingly slow rhythm.

Carson moaned in frustration. "Bloody bastard! Fuck me!"

"Damn, I love it when you talk dirty," Rodney teased.

"Git!" Carson muttered, then gasped and arched again as Rodney slammed into him hard.

Rodney pumped into him in several hard, swift strokes, and then paused, buried to the hilt, a strange look on his face.

"What is it?" Carson asked after a moment.

"He's kicking. Just feels strange."

"Ah. He knows when his mum-dad is enjoying himself."

"Mmh." Rodney closed his eyes and began once again stroking into Carson, lost in the dual sensations of Carson's body surrounding his cock and Carson's son moving within him.

"So beautiful," Carson murmured.

Rodney smiled and wrapped a hand around Carson's erection, stroking him in rhythm and then adjusted his angle slightly, knowing he'd succeeded when his lover let out a strangled moan. "Talk to me, Cars. Tell me how it feels."

"Oh, God! It's so good, love. To feel you inside me, so hot and hard, making me so full... Fuck!... Ah... Fucking me... so deep... Oh, sweet Lord! I can feel the head of your cock... stroking against my sweet spot... Ah, Rodney, I'm going to come soon..."

"Oh, yeah..." Rodney moaned. "Come for me, Carson."

"Unh! C-coming..." Carson threw his head back, mouth hanging open as he gasped, body bucking up to meet Rodney's inward stroke, impaling himself deeply. He shuddered so hard it almost seemed like a convulsion and then his cock began pulsing between them, coating both their chests and bellies.

"Fuck!" Rodney gasped as Carson's body clasped around him. He pulled out and slammed into Carson one more time and then throbbed into him, the sensation causing them both to moan.

When he finally recovered enough motor control to move, Rodney slipped out from under Carson's legs and stretched out beside his lover, gathering Carson in his arms and dropping kisses on his face and lips.

Carson smiled under the onslaught. "I take it I'm forgiven, love?"

Rodney chuckled. "Just this once. But when I stop being able to tie my shoes, you're dead meat."

They lay together for a moment, letting their breathing and heartbeats return to normal.

"So, wedding?" Rodney asked.

"I suppose you're opposed to a religious ceremony?"

"It, uh, wouldn't have much meaning for me."

Carson nodded. "What say we just have Elizabeth do it-- small ceremony? We'll throw a big celebratory reception instead."

"Works for me. When?"

"The Daedalus is due in roughly four weeks? We can send orders through on the next databurst, which should get them aboard before they depart."

Rodney smiled. "Cool."

Carson laughed. "You spend too much time with Colonel Sheppard."
