long day

Co-Op interview day was today. I had a total of 13 interviews. Was a nice day overall. I really liked several of the companies. Looks like we are gonna have some pretty stiff competition though.

well, i already got one yes or no.. was a no, not really disapointed. Was from adtran. Looked like they were gonna be good at first, but they ended up kinda boring me. that, and i really dont wanna get stuck doing tech support for a term, even if it is with people who know electronics..

Stephan Henning,

Thank you for taking time to interview with me earlier today. Although I was impressed with your credentials, ADTRAN will not be able to offer you employment at this time.

I wish you luck in the future.

Best regards,

Diane Matthews

ADTRAN Human Resources Specialist

thats the email i got back from them. kinda irritates me though. they just had an HR for their interviews. I dont see why they didnt bring an engineer with. I honeslty dont feel that the HR is totally qualified to pick co-op students. that, and the tone of the email kinda bothered me. she also CC'ed it to like.. 6 other people..

I suppose they have the credentials set up and they want to HR person to be sure that you can speak clearly and present yourself well; because those are also really important in tech support... I hate talking with people I can't understand or who look or sound like idiots. Take Brandon Ray for example...

And on the CC thing... she must have had six other Stephan Hennings to send this to. ... or maybe there were other people involved (like engineer looking over credentials) who needed to know that you were nixed by her.

'Course I dunno... that's just my guess... I don't really know much about this sort of thing.

i dont dissagree with sending an HR person, but i beleive thats its always a good idea to send an engineer with. honestly, those who are appling are smart guys. we dont wanna hear the usual pr talk about a company. we wanna hear details from the engineers that work there..

and imho, the HR lady had a much harder time communicating then anyone else did.

True, true...

Ah... but you forget that her skillz are honed to communicate with normal people. Who are, you know, usually stupid. So of course she has lots of problems trying to communicate with someone she isn't cerebrally superior to and she knows it. If she thought she was smarter than you, she'd be fine until you told her to cut the crap, and then she'd be all "agaa.. aaga uhhhm.. uhm.. ahh... Craaap? duuuhhhrrrr...."
