Jack left the TARDIS, carefully checking his and its surroundings for dangerous things like hunters, warriors, poison ivy, fluffy animals - but nothing was there, only the soft grass under his feet and the large trees with their slightly brown-purple trunks.
But wasn’t the grass maybe too soft? The thin blades of grass were different shades of green with a hue of turquoise and yellow and so fine they almost felt like fur. But it didn’t look like they had landed on a big animal, though. Definitely grass growing on soil.

The Doctor left the TARDIS behind Jack and took a deep breath. The ex-Time Agent eyed the Time Lord curiously.
“Those are mine and they are way too big for you.”
The Doctor shrugged and grinned.
“The last time we had a picnic I had grass stains all over my suit. But this time: your idea, your dirty clothes,” the Time Lord declared and Jack could see his naked toes wiggling under the hem of the jeans’ legs.
Jack grinned and had to admit that the Doctor looked quite… normal, for the lack of a better word. A part of Jack wondered and worried a bit, though. In what Jack felt were normal-sized clothes the tall alien looked even scrawnier than usual. He figured that only a belt could hold the jeans on those slim hips and - although he wanted to keep worrying - his mind wandered off to other to other things. Things he could do once he had those clothes off the Time Lord.
But for now he just put down the basket he had brought and spread the traditional plaid blanket. He sat down and took out some fruit he - admittedly - didn’t exactly know (he had just found them in the kitchen) and a plate of sandwiches. When he removed the last item from the basket (for now - there were some other things in there as well but they were meant for later) the Doctor positively squealed.
“Tea? You brought tea? Sometimes I really think I love you.”
“You mean, all the time,” grinned Jack and put down the thermos flask next to their sandwiches.
“You couldn’t find a real teapot, though, could you? Ah, I’m sorry, that was rude. Shutting up now.”
He eagerly too the cup from Jack and lost himself in the pleasure of good tea for a moment. He glanced up after a moment, almost surprised to see Jack there and then blushed.
But Jack just grinned and hoped that for once they wouldn’t be hunted down by angry locals. Those were a bit problem on their days off. Because whenever they decided they could have a day off life decided differently.
A frown ghosted over the Doctor’s face for a moment. Alarms were ringing inside Jack’s head and he begged for another half an hour, maybe and hour. The frown disappeared after just another second again.
“Nope, have switched off the hot plate,” he grinned and he knew very well he had been worrying about something else. He tried to drown his doubts in tea.
It seemed to work because after half a cup - drunken in silence - both were a lot more relaxed. In fact, the alien was so relaxed that he forgot everything around him. He looked up warily and almost shyly when Jack suddenly appeared before him. But that shyness was off. It was guilt-laden. Jack wondered why and the realised. He put his hands on his lover’s waist before looking into those deep brown eyes. Something like worry and sorrow flashed in them.
“I know. And it’s okay. Let’s just believe it won’t happen this time. Okay?”
The Doctor put his cup down warily, feeling exposed and funny all of a sudden. He in Jack’s clothes - what a laughing stock that must be. So very awkward.
But the lips that met his told him differently. It felt like an unseen force pulling his head back to face Jack, to grant his all too human lover better access without having to use his hands.
It felt like he had no choice for another moment, something curled in his stomach when his lips parted and he started to kiss Jack back. For a moment it felt like he could make this stop if he only fought back, but when the knot in his stomach moved further down and morphed into the familiar heat he didn’t want it to stop anymore.
And yet they parted, a bit breathless and flushed, but oddly content.
“Let’s just pretend for a few hours that indeed we are a normal couple doing normal things on normal weekends,” Jack continued and ended his earlier statement.
After he thought that he had seen the answer in the Doctors eyes Jack let go of his waist, lay down on his back, his head resting in the Doctor’s lap. He was rewarded with a brilliant, open and gentle smile he only saw on special occasions.
“Well, maybe we can take an afternoon off,” he said, trying not to let show how touched he was and covering up the sudden excitement.
