Thoughts on winter work

It's winter, so I'm in the lab. This is when I catch up on all the paperwork I've not been able to get to all year. I also write those reports that have been languishing for a couple of years waiting for someone (namely me) to get around to working on them ( Read more... )

When I was working on the oil pipeline in the '80s, we, the field workers who were busting our butts, figured out that the only thing that "the office" could bounce a report for was a mismatch between the dimensions of the site as delineated on the site map, versus the dimensions listed on the site description paperwork.

Of course that was all they could check, as they were usually in a different state, and often another time zone from the crews.

Guess what we made a point of double checking before submitting reports?

The only comment that came to mind is that the company that Tristram does field work for apparently loves his notes, because they are clear and complete and make sense back in the lab. I understand, I think, what you mean.
