That iPod Meme

Dec 26, 2006 01:05

Belly hurts. Can’t sleep. Doing memes instead.

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it or your playlist on shuffle (I’ve chosen to use my infinite mixtape for this, since it’s pretty much the cream of the crop of my music collection.)
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie.

Opening Credits: The Rapture, “Whoo! Alright Yeah… Uh-Huh”
Classic twiggywhiteguy dance music. I can only imagine the introduction looking like an iPod commercial.

Waking Up: “He War” by Cat Power.
My mornings are slightly misandrynistic.

First Day At School: “A Good Day” by Smart Went Crazy.
This might sound appropriate, except for the fact that the first words of the song are “It’s always pretty after an apocalypse.” The rest of the song involves the Crips planting white lilies, civil rights leaders rising from the dead to assault Louis Farrakhan, and former RNC chairmen prostituting themselves on the corner. In other words, it’s really appropriate.

Falling In Love: “The Recluse” by Cursive.
“I can hardly get myself out of the bed for fear of never lying in this bed again.” Pretty accurate description of my desperation early on. iTunes is, unfortunately, giving me a cold, hard look at my life.

Fight Song: “Pink Cloud Tracing Paper” by Asobi Seksu
I have half a feeling that this scene would involve a lot of overexposed shots and film being run at double speed. It would probably be pretty cool.

Breaking Up: “By You” by Fugazi
The first minute of this would be pretty appropriate for the set-up for the breakup; the remainder would just be more overexposed shots and dizzy camerawork.

Prom: “Girls and Boys” by Blur.
Pretty damn appropriate. Girls who want boys who like boys to be girls… blasting over the loudspeaker? I would have been ecstatic to have this playing at my prom.

Life: “The Trail of Your Blood in the Snow” by Juno
Slow-mo, grey-day montage with lots of rain and depressing shots of the protagonist (i.e. me.) It would be pretty appropriate for my college years.

Mental Breakdown: “Bees” by Caribou
This song is a bit peaceful for a mental breakdown, but I think it would be a damn good song for a midlife crisis in which the protagonist tries to become Kerouac. Either that, or the music is just totally clashing with the protagonist being strapped down to a bed and injected full of drugs. Either one.

Driving: “Baba O’Reilly” by the Who.
The previous track would have been better (it’s one of my all time favorite driving songs) but this works too.

Flashback: “Strangelight” by Fugazi.
Hell, this song already gives me flashbacks to freshman year. The opening minute is perfect flashback music - it’s so damn creepy, with the distant pianos and whatnot.

Wedding: “Omphalos” by Cerberus Shoal
Apparently, I’m getting married in a very somber and dark ceremony that probably takes place in the woods in midnight. The entire thing is shot in slow motion.

Birth of Child: “We Laugh Indoors” by Death Cab for Cutie.
Hopefully, neither my wife’s name, nor our first child’s name, is Gueniviere.

Final Battle: “Collarbone” by Fujiya & Miyagi
The final battle, apparently, is a dance-off between me and an equally spastic Japanese guy.

Death Scene: “Ocean Breathes Salty” by Modest Mouse.
You wasted life. Why wouldn’t you waste death?

Funeral Scene: “Sunday Noises” by Califone
Honestly, this is probably the most appropriate choice here. This song is definitely funereal, and I’d be pretty happy if someone had the knowledge to play this at my funeral.

Ending Credits: “Holland, 1945” by Neutral Milk Hotel.
Probably my favorite song ever. Except it’s about Anne Frank and not about me. That makes it a bit weird.

I can more or less that these might make a soundtrack, but it really doesn’t say much. Oh well - now you know a number of my favorite songs. Just keep that in mind.
