Election

As we all know, today Kerry gave his concession speech, and Bush will be the president for the next four years. At first I thought "Oh, man, this sucks, our country is going to die!" I then realized that now Congress holds an even further majority of Republicans, the head of Senate is a republican, and the elder Supreme Court Justices, including ( Read more... )

Nick, I am moderate, and I am sad that the democrats did sooo poorly, cause a divided government is a good thing for the United States.
Most polititians are good people, you just have to look for it. Of course Kerry is a good person, so is Bush, and Nader's great too. Kennedy, Mccain(no doubt man, at least when he was at hanoi hilton), Perot, Dole(both), Edwards, Clinton(both), Dashale, Stockdale, Bush Sr., Reagan. Most people are good guys, and very compassionate. They could afford to be a little more so at times, and almost all need to be more humble, but they are all pretty decent human beings. Look at the way Barbra looks at George and you can see it. Look at the way Kerry looks at his daughter and you can see it.

Politicians can be good people, but I have never seen one do both at the same time. All the others seem to be able to be either a politician in times of office (Such as Clinton) or a human (when not in office, such as Carter). When Clinton apologized to the nation, it seemed to be merely politics, when Kerry spoke, I could tell it was from the heart.

I don't know, i think McCain and Leibermann do a pretty good job of being human and polititians at the same time.

I have not seen much of Leiberman, however I will give you McCain... though he just seems to have a more upbeat personality.

Well...I agree with both of you? curiouslybrown November 3 2004, 19:41:40 UTC
I can understand completely where Nick is coming from with Kerry being abnormally [by politicians standards] compassionate/sincere...but you also have to consider this...spaminacan, you're right, at the core of it all they all have some good in them, granted some more than others, but whatever, its all relative. But see...not a whole lot of them have ever really gone through what John Kerry has just gone through. No one else has really been in this momentous of an occassion. So it all factors in to create a really humble man. That said...I think Kerry is still an exception. There is something in him that I have not seen from those in the past...not frequently and to this degree, that is. Kerry...hmm...he's a gentleman. A real class act. When he talks about the people he encountered throughout the campaign [myself included]..he really does listen to you, I've experienced that first hand, he will listen to you and what you have to say and he will give you a much more straightforward and well constructed answer than I've ( ... )

I think I said it best on my livejournal, Nick: we all abdictated our duty to help in this campaign. We can change that. We can make the change for the 2006 Congressional election. There is a brighter future, even with Bush - there are fights ahead, we can't just sit here and mourn our loss. Out party is going to change a lot in these four years. We made huge mistakes this time.

We, the liberals, will be left behind by our party if we are not heared. We must be heared. Reach out to grab the future, for if we do then we will hold it - and part of it will be ours--

Will you meet me in the middle? spaminacan85 November 3 2004, 20:21:31 UTC
I think that we need to stop fighting. I think that the democrats benefit if they capture the center, if they bring the entire country back to the center. As my gov teacher pointed out, arguments on all sides were dumbed down for a shot at sensationalism. The american people are smarter than this. We need to show that they can understand complex subjects.

an article- thought of this post when i read it spaminacan85 November 4 2004, 16:32:53 UTC
"For all the billions spent and the efforts to make elections a semi-science (Karl Rove, Bush's chief adviser, was always studying "metric mileposts" in his get-out-the-vote operation), politics is intensely personal. Presidential candidates are in some ways objects, screens upon which we project hopes and dreams, fears and hatreds. But they are also human-they are husbands and fathers, they have insecurities and doubts, moments of loneliness and fatigue. They are motivated to run for office by visions of a better country but also by old resentments and angers. This was especially true in the 2004 presidential election."
