Fuck 'em, just call in sick when you get there. Or just don't call and let them figure it out:) You will NEED the extra income until you actually go, because Europe is quite expensive (trust me, I know). The Euro is much stronger than the dollar and you will be spending a lot of money there. It is like the reverse effect of going to Japan and trading in money. So schedule the time off with your family, work up until the day before you leave, and then either call and say "Oh by the way, I am sick...yeah, and am going to be sick for the next couple of weeks. I am in Madrid and caught this damn bug and can't get past quarantine, so you know, I'll need you to cover for me" Or the day before you leave just walk up to your manager and kick him in the ass but good and then walk out. Either way could be fun:) Look for a new job, definitely, but if you start before you leave you will definitely NOT get any such time off.
