I think you're close...I think it's too easy to get large quantities of music, so individual songs and albums don't necessarily get your full attention.

That said, I'm hoping to have a new album out early next year. It will get a LOT of attention from me. :)

This is one of the reasons why I stopped downloading music on eMule and Bittorrent. I was getting all kinds of music, but not deriving any enjoyment from it. I found that if I purchase just one or two album per month, I enjoy the hell out of them, leaving them completely hell-free.

Don't tell the RIAA I said this.

I think the root cause of the problem is that there isn't any mystery left. There was a time when my favorite musicians were enigmatic (some still are), but now you can go to bands' MySpace pages and watch videos of them sitting around playing video games and eating snack foods. Say goodbye to any aura of mystery.

It's clear that some of the better (or at least smarter) bands understand this. Radiohead is a good example. Familiarity breeds contempt.
