Right, quickie entry. Further to the exploits with Saffy earlier this week - her rash went away but her cold never really improved. She's had a sore ear since Friday, but had an awful night last and was crying with the pain today. Our lovely NHS24 tried to put me through to a doctor but it was 2 hours later when one finally phoned back. Another 3 ( Read more... )

Poor wee thing....NHS24 sucks.

How's the prognosis for Christmas looking, think she'll be fixed up by then?

She's should be better in a few days - she's got erythromicin to take to prevent infection. Fingers crossed for her, she's so upset.

Poor little thing! It's true that the pain should lessen now, and the eardrum should heal up in 2 weeks or so. I'm sure she'll keep improving and be well enough to enough Christmas in a week's time. :-)

So it should heal in about two weeks-ish? They said it grows back and she's not to go swimming for about a month, but weren't clear about how long it takes to heal over. That makes me feel better! When they first said her eardrum had burst I got such a shock - never had that in any of the others! Her temp has gone down a bit now and she's drawing pictures, so she must be feeling a bit better, phew. And thanks for the card Seshat - it was lovely and I appreciated the palm tree LOL!

Yes, the hole should heal over in roughly 2 weeks. Just keep her from putting her head underwater for about a month (showers are okay), and you might want to have her use earplugs for swimming from now on to keep bacteria out.

If she continues to have repeat problems with ear infections, they may want to put in a small drainage tube in her eardrum. This is a very common procedure, though.

Your poor Saffy! I hope everything clears up soon - I had a nasty ear infection last year that was more painful than childbirth! *cyber hugs* to all of you.

IMO earache is a close second to toothache, and both rate far higher than childbirth in the pain stakes. I feel for anyone with earache...i was plagued with ear infections as a child.

She seemed to sleep better last night, thank goodness. Now Matthew and Adam are ill! I'm appreciating being able to grab 5 mins on the net catching up with everyone's news. Hooray for LJ - bit of adult interaction.
Ear infections aren't fun - I pity anyone who gets them.
