OUCH

Picking No 3 child up from school today I saw a little girl trip up and hit her face off the ground. Poor wee lamb, she was bleeding really badly from her lip, but am pleased to say she was fine after it stopped ( Read more... )

Sha're I've noticed that you and me are the same age. :) What you've described is a childhood that I can associate with. When I was a kid, I was basically a latch-key kid...kicked out of the house, left to my own devices, and only allowed back in for lunch, tea and bed. Of course we got hurt more, we were out in the big wide world more....so many adventures to be had. I don't believe that somne people are more ccident prone, I belive that some of us just put ourselves in riskier situations that increase the liklihood of accidents.

You know - you're right! We were afforded more freedom which led to more things happening. When I think of the places I went and the things we did - you just wouldn't let your kids do that now. It was too boring to stay in the house all day.
Come to think of it - if a child nowadays ahd a list of injuries like that the social services would be called in!

Wow, sounds like you've been through the ringer as far as accidents and injuries. And as far as being unlucky, or even accident-prone, I think that's a possibility; but it may have more to do with who you are....let me explain ( ... )

Ouch! Not even close, but I stepped on a rusty nail, got blood poisoning and came near to losing my leg. I did have some good adventures though. If you're interested, I'll tell you the elephant story. :)

I feel like I'm really clumsy... you know those embarassing things that happen in public... things dropping, knocking bins down, knocking display items off the table... they seem to always happen to me. Probably why I'm not big on slapstick humour because I live it and I don't think it's funny.
I also think it's because I'm in a hurry or I'm not concentrating on where I'm walking... I really don't know why to be honest... I'm really tired and not firing on 6 cylinders...

I am always walking into floor-to-ceiling mirrors that they have all over shopping centres - I'll think "gosh - she looks familiar" then bam!

I had a VERY overprotective mother who never let us blow our noses without a full medical alert team standing by...well okay, that's an exaggeration, but I never ever broke anything as a kid because I was barely let out of the house. Sports were discouraged as ways we would only hurt ourselves. Physical activity was frowned upon. I have always regretted that because I grew into a very lazy adult because of it.

Inside the house was another matter, I had a sister who liked to use me as a handy dandy punching bag. She played rough as well...I lost my 2 front teeth due to her "just kidding around".

You sound like my son. He tangled with an iron as a toddler (and lost), grabbed some redwood stakes about the age of 3 and spent 2 hrs in an Emer. room having the 100 or so slivers removed, broke his arm in kindergarten when he fell off the school monkey bars, at age of 10 was taken to emer. room with possible appendicitis but turned out to be gastro disturbance due to food intolerance, injured knee/ligaments at 11, and he was even "misplaced" by United Airlines last summer (and you thought they only lost luggage!). Yes, he falls down the stairs all the time. *shaking head* You are not alone. *LOL*
