Speeches sure are nice, but I'd like to see more of it enacted in policy. I was deeply disappointed when I heard he was going to look into the feasibility of repealing DADT, as opposed to his previous promise to quickly do away with it. I guess a steamroller of a president isn't a good idea, but for all his talk about taking religion out of policy discussion, he sure is making a lot of concessions to the religious debaters.
The irony is that DADT was a complete waste of political capital for Clinton when it was enacted. It was a policy for a segment of the population that mostly doesn't care about serving in the military applied to a segment of the government that was most likely to pitch a fit about it. I think Obama realizes this and that is why you won't be seeing DADT as a major policy issue until his second term (if ever). I mean, really... you wanna be an openly gay Marine?
I'd be looking towards what he's going to do on marriage equality. Probably in his second term sadly because he will need to be able to get re-elected. But that's reality.
Oh. Well, you learn something new every day I geuss. Unfortunately there are things that this administration is goign to be focusing on more in the next few months and yeasr. If it means enough to you, you can always get togeather like minded people and lobby. This President seems to give at least two shits about what people think so he might be swayed.
