Burglary victim drives off in thieves' van

A man in Washington state made sure a pair of burglars didn't get away with his three flat-screen televisions - he moved their getaway car.  Patrick Rosario was in the basement of his Bellevue home on Tuesday when he heard the burglars upstairs.  The Seattle Times says the 32-year-old Rosario, who had been laid off from his job as a Washington Mutual manager, called 911 while he sneaked out of the house.  He saw a white van sitting in front of his house with the motor running and the keys in the ignition, and he got in and drove it to a friend's house.  Police say the burglars left the televisions, a laptop computer and a jewelry box by the door and took off on foot.

Hehe.

Flying thief caught again at age 83

A notorious 83-year-old Hungarian thief with a criminal record dating back six decades, was caught by police Thursday at the scene of a break-in.  Kosztor Sandorne, dubbed "Flying Gizi" by Hungarian media, was arrested after she entered a house in Komarom, a town in the northwest.  Sandorne, who earned her nickname because she liked to flee her crime scenes by taking commercial flights, said she was in the house because she was trying to save money.  "At her hearing she said she wanted to find a cheaper lodging than in Budapest, where it is too expensive," a police spokeswoman told Reuters.  "Flying Gizi" has been convicted more than 20 times and first came to the attention of the police in the 1950s.

Flying

I guess she didn't have a good retirement plan.

Study takes step toward erasing bad memories

A widely available blood pressure pill could one day help people erase bad memories, perhaps treating some anxiety disorders and phobias, according to a Dutch study published on Sunday.  The generic beta-blocker propranolol significantly weakened people's fearful memories of spiders among a group of healthy volunteers who took it, said Merel Kindt, a psychologist at the University of Amsterdam, who led the study.  "We could show that the fear response went away, which suggests the memory was weakened," Kindt said in a telephone interview.  The findings published in the journal Nature Neuroscience are important because the drug may offer another way to help people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and other problems related to bad memories.

$384K USF dean captured on video taking $100 bicycle

A University of South Florida vice president who makes $384,280 annually is being investigated on charges he stole a $100 mountain bike.   Dr. Abdul Rao was captured on surveillance video Monday night with a man he says is semi-homeless and does odd jobs for him.  In the video, uploaded on YouTube, the pair approach the loading dock at the Johnnie B. Byrd Alzheimer's Center & Research Institute in a van. They get out and look over some parked bikes.  Rao's companion takes one bike for a very short test ride and rejects it. He settles on another one, and walks it down a ramp.

Trooper Fired After Being Accused Of Stealing Cash From Drivers

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper accused of stealing cash from at least three drivers has been fired after pleading no contest to grand theft charges. Richard Dill pleaded no contest to third-degree grand theft charges.  Sources with the state attorneys office told Local 6 News that FHP investigators set up a sting after three victims claimed Dill took $560 in three separate incidents. FHP investigators said the drivers from which Dill took money were all pulled over on Oakridge Road in Orlando.  The sources said that the thefts were motivated by Dill's gambling debt.

Again with the no judgement thing.

Man kills girlfriend's cat

Largo Police have arrested Matthew Selk for felony cruelty to animals after killing his girlfriend's cat.  A roommate heard the Selk punching his girlfriend's 2-year-old Siamese cat after he became upset with it, then placed the cat in a back pack. Selk left and returned to Winding Lane Apartments on Belcerh Road in Largo, without the cat.  Selk's girlfriend arrived home from work, discovered blood everywhere in her bedroom and 2 bloody knives. The girlfriend confronted Selk who admitted that he killed the cat. She called the police as he left the apartment and a perimeter was set up. K-9 Officer Misner and his partner "Wil" responded and started a track.  An Officer noticed the male walking from the back of an Outback Steakhouse and stopped him inside of the Apartment building. Selk was placed into custody for the Felony Cruelty to Animals.  Officers conducted an area search for the cat which had negative results. The suspect says the cat was dead and he had placed it in the grease dumpster in the rear of the Outback Restaurant. Officers searched the grease dumpster and nothing turned up. Then the suspect hinted that he may have dismembered it however he would not tell the officers where it was.

Killing

That asshole had better be glad he wasn't dismembered.  If that was my cat, that man would have died a long agonizingly painful death and I would be glad to be in jail for it.  Then again, I would never date someone who looks like this:
