You know, you're right... he was technically working three 'jobs' when Madame Director ordered him to go undercover without telling anyone. The show made it seem like it was only all the lying that was tiring him out, but I like your interpretation better. It makes more sense in connection with what we know of his character (he is, after all, a life-long and consummate liar) as well as really humanising a character the show has done its level best to flatten and caricature. Nicely done!

Also, go Vin and Chris for being there for him when Zeeeeeva wasn't. Some Mossad agent, hah! (As if it's not obvious, I'm not actually a big fan of Ziva's. She had potential but she lost my respect pretty early on and never got it back. I miss Kate a lot.)

The blond man - Chris - sits next to Vin on the couch and something about him softens when he looks at Vin. Tony stands and goes to the kitchen, uncomfortable with the intimacy that simmers between the two men. Longing twists in his gut for what they have and he takes a few moments to push the ( ... )

I've taken to pretending the current NCIS is some McGee fangirl's daydream and that it actually ended about three seasons ago. It just annoys me at the moment for the exact reasons you say.

I liked Ziva back in the orange beanie days. Not so much anymore.

The way I see it, Tony's probably been fairly lonely since Hiatus, for any number of reasons. The writers give us these stark hints about it, like Ziva and McGee's disrespect for him, his anguish at losing Jeanne, his reaction to being afloat after Jenny's death, but they always gloss over it.

If he isn't going out with his frat brothers and he isn't seeing girls all the time, and the team never goes out together after work - what exactly is Tony doing in his downtime and where is he getting support? As far as I can tell; pretty much nothing and nowhere. I barely see the team as a team anymore, never mind a substitute family.

Life bitchslapped me, but I'm hoping things will improve.

I agree, there is a fine line between making Tony the funny go-along guy, and making him the 2-D butt of all the jokes. The one thing I liked about the episode when his father showed up was that he had Gibbs to turn to afterwards. Too bad the writers of the show probably don't read fanfiction they could use a few pointers.
