Last night was successful. There were a few spots of failure, three, specifically. Because bad things come in threes. Good stuff will come first, followed by the bad.
So it was back to the Jerze for stuff. (Editor's note: FUCK! I forgot to do one of the more important things I went back to jersey for! I didn't get bloodwork done! Fuck! Shit! Goddammit! Eh. Whatevs. I can get that taken care of on Friday, before going to Rutgers.) A+ went swimmingly, all my books were in. I've got two on re-order from previous weeks, and it is starting to look grim as to whether or not I will get them. I think I might be waiting for the trades on these. We'll see if Bill can come through. Some excellent books this week, which I am looking forward to reading during my lunch break, Fury: Peacemaker being foremost among them, as well as the conclusion to the Slavers arc of Punisher. A double dose of Ennis-y goodness? Yes please! Too bad Ghost Rider didn't come out this week, otherwise Garth would be a triple delight.
Back to my house. Dinner was delicious. My brother's dog is huge. He's a Chesapeke retriever. Five months old, and the dog is already like 65 pounds. Chris said Remy will almost double that weight by the time he's full grown. And of course, being at home I had to play tech support for my family. Fun times there. When I get home for a whole weekend, I'm going to do some serious scanning and updating of that thing. I think I'm going to tell them they need a new computer for Christmas next year. And maybe somehow convince them to get broadband. Also picked up some groceries that my mom had bought for me at Sam's Club. Chicken, Mac and cheese, Arctic Chill, and granola bars.
On the way back to Philly, stopped at Best Buy for DVD purchasing. This was failure number one. I had a list of about five DVDs to buy. Corpse Bride was just released, so that was one. Nightmare Before Christmas was on sale, so that was another. Black Sheep was crazy cheap, as were American History X and South Park: The Movie, albeit slightly less cheap. Corpse Bride and American History X were the only two that I was able to buy. They had none of the others. I get increasingly pissed off every time I go to that Best Buy. They never have what I'm looking for. As I was saying to Jenn when I was in the car venting, the Best Buy I used to go to when I lived in Hatfield was wonderful. DVDs were in the front of the store, prominently displayed, not tucked away in the back. In the front of the store, by the entrance, they had a table with that week's specials on it. Seeing s how I usually would shop from the flyer, this was extremely convenient for me. Deptford's Best Buy does not do this. And for that, they suck. They also seem to have eliminated the $5.99 DVD section, instead, dispersing the movies randomly throughout the other sections. Blargh. I should just wait until Deep Discount DVD has one of their sales, and buy all my DVDs from them. It would be more reliable and cheaper as well. Them or Amazon. Something to consider.
Failure number two occurred as I was carrying stuff into my apartment. I had stuff in an Old Navy shopping bag that my dad had given me for the purpose of carrying said stuff. Imagine my delight when the bottom of the bag tears apart, spilling everything, resulting in the shattering of a ceramic candy dish I had been given. Goddamn sidewalk and its hardness. Why can't we walk on Astroturf? I bet it wouldn't have broken then.
Failure number three went down at Jenn's place. Her internet went wonky, seemingly something to do with the router, and my best efforts could not remedy the error. I even plugged her LAN cable directly into the modem, and nothing was happening. So something must be amiss. I don't like when I can't determine the cause of problems. I like it even less when I can't determine the solution.
Good times again occurred, as we watched episode 4 of The L Word. Ah, lesbians. We were slightly disappointed, they got it on much less than usual in this episode. Still, we had our own Hot Sex to make up for that fact. I even got to sleep crazy early too. I think it was like, midnightish. 6 hours of sleep? Woo!
Today hasn't been much. I forgot my work bag at Jenn's, so I had to stop back there and get it. I also read the emails concerning textbooks from my teachers. It seems my earlier estimates were drastically under reality. I need new books for each of my classes, save the one lab class. And I haven't heard back from the one English class. At present, book estimate? 344 dollars. Plus shipping costs on 7 different items. Motherfucker. One book is listed at 140 bucks! Gah!
I'm gonna wait about a month, and order in the beginning of March. I'm hoping these higher prices are due to it still being kinda the beginning of the term for normal college students. Maybe in March, things will drop a bit. Still, it looks like I'm gonna be dropping somewhere in the range of 300-400 bucks on books this term. Bull-fucking-shit. This is like, the most ever. On the plus side though, it looks like summer term will only be 1 book. Possibly 2, if I need one for Post Colonial Lit II. Blargh. Why are text books so fucking expensive? I wonder if I could break into the bookstore one night and acquire what I need? Cue spy music.
