[Though he'd never say it out loud, being back on the ship was incredibly depressing for Jak.  He grew up on a beach with the sun, sand and surf, and being back out there made him miss home.  His childhood home, not the dull, grey, war torn city of Haven ( Read more... )

[Honestly, Zelda's a little upset, too. They didn't have time to say goodbye to everything. It was more or less just like being pulled from Hyrule.

"Goodbye to everyone and everything you held dear. You're a captive of Captain Redd now. Congratulations, Princess. Welcome to Hell, and make yourself comfortable because you'll be here for a while."

Zelda sighs. Book in hand that she's taken from the library, her nerves aren't soothed. She's distressing a little, at least. She's concerned. She's worried. She's... unsure. Certainly, the ship's success to rid themselves of the girl will come, but she doesn't know when. And she has a dreadful feeling that it may come at the cost of something great. Something greater than what they should have to part with.

How many more will die? It's like invasions all over again. It's like a war that can't be won. Depressing. Distressing. Defeating.

Zelda doesn't want to surrender.

She rises, answers her door. Well, opens it at any rate for Jak on the other side.]

Don't just wait out there. Come on.

[Jak slips past her and sets the box down on the coffee table, along with the bag.

Turning back to her, he tilts his head slightly. Sometimes it's difficult to remember that not everyone is accustomed to war, or at least feels somewhat comfortable on the front lines.]

We'll figure out a way to end this, with or without the crew.

[She closes the door after him, turns, plants her back to it and watches him for a moment. Then she nods. He's concerned about her, probably thinking she's more fragile than she is because she plays herself down.

Nothing really suspicious about her nowadays, actually. Minus being a boy. Sometimes. When the boy in her feels like being a boy.]

Of course we will. I've never thought otherwise. It's kill or be killed, in a sense of things.

[Jak will forever and always consider Zelda fragile. Even after seeing that she can hold her own quite well. She's just so much more delicate and pretty than anything from his world.

Sighing, he sits down heavily on the couch.]

We're still no closer to knowing how to kill her.

[It's frustrating. He's not a planner, not a leader. Jak throws himself headlong into danger and kicks it until it stops moving.

But he's not stupid -- well, not that stupid. He knows that won't work here, not with Jennifer. Not with the doctor or the mirrors or the graves.]
