Blogathon: Elsewhere

Aug 01, 2010 03:59

You have been a clockwork girl in a clockwork world, an elsewhere of gears and flywheels, all machine and no man. It was horrifying, for the brief time you were trapped there, and you wondered how anyone could have thought it a reprieve. You were wound and set in place and confined to a set of herky-jerky motions. You'd always associated the elsewheres with a freedom for control, but this elsewhere had control even more rigid than that of the outside world.

You tried to imagine what might make someone need that as their retreat, would need to feel more restricted. And more and more, you were just tired. More and more, tiktoktiktok along the path, you just wanted to be home.

"A Mechanical Memory" earrings by Rivenwanderer, who made these by hammering steel watch gears on copper discs. The discs were then drilled and gently domed. She oxidized them to bring out the gear shapes, polished them, and sealed the resulting surface with a microcrystalline wax. They hang from commercial sterling ear wires.

You guys wrist ow. Also tired.
