If you're out of butter, you shouldn't really substitute vegetable oil in recipes. And if you do, one cup of oil doesn't equal three teaspoons of butter. Makes things come out kinda with the consistency of crude oil instead of a solid, and kind of looks like coffee ground emesis. you can substitute vegetable oil in some things like rice-roni, noodle mixes (pasta roni) and stuff like that. You might have to use a little less than the recipe calls for.
