Environmentalist Horsecrap!

Despite the title, this post is not a political statement.  I've just become outraged by the deceptions I've witnessed recently in the name of environmentalism and conservation.

In the last week I've seen two occasions of inaccurate information (bordering on outright lies) by groups promoting "green" agenda.  I support environmental responsibility ( Read more... )

I believe the reason we are seeing more of this recently (and I've noticed it too) is that when green wasn't "the new black" the people promoting green were either high well-meaning hippies (you expect them to be confused) or seriously concerned and frustrating scientists. All the bogus bullshit was then coming from the anti-environmentalist (there has to be a better not-insulting word for them, but I can't think of it this pre-coffee ( ... )

As someone who has been able to have a job title of "Scientist" since 1996, without lying that is, I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that misinformation is everywhere. It's perpetuated by a number of sources for a number of reasons. But the first and foremost is that people are intellectually lazy and do not want to do the work it takes to become informed so that they can spot the crap among the multitude of information out there. With the internet there is more readily available information. Unfortunately there aren't more people informed enough to know what they're talking about. But due to the ubiquitous and very accessible nature of the internet the misinformed get just as much of a voice as the truly informed. However the intellectually lazy STILL won't put forth the effort to find out who's even partially correct and who's completely full of poo ( ... )
