Next time I get a cough, I'm going to find all of the cough medicine in this house and take it all, and when it all runs out I'll freakin get some more and chug that all down, and if THAT doesn't work I'm going to just hold my mouth shut until I stop coughing

i know it's easily said than done but try not to incorporate your whole upper body while coughing. it might help if you dont breathe in too deeply while coughing (or cough drops!). other than that, the pain should go away within a coupla weeks. ppl usually dont cough forcefully enough to do lasting damage (if that makes you feel any better).
