Character History:
In a world similar to ours, the borders between the living and the dead are weak; ghosts roam much more freely and hauntings were not uncommon. And some ghosts, due to possessing a great deal of spiritual power while they were alive, have become a great deal more powerful than the average ghost. These ghosts, due to how powerful they are, are able to have a physical and solid form and are as such known as the most deadliest of ghosts due to how they have the possibility of directly harming humans. However, they are also feared by other spirits, and are thus known to be the most solitary of spirits.
Madeline “Maddie” Rochet was born in France, within the city of Châlons-en-Champagne in 1994. She lived with her parents, Sophie Deneuve who worked as a music teacher and Vincent Rochet who was a successful entrepreneur of a small but popular chain of restaurants, along with her little brother, Louis. Maddie had a normal but rather privileged childhood; most of her time was spent playing with friends, being taught piano by her mother, arguing with her brother and being taught business skills by her father. She was very close to her parents, especially her mother, and grudgingly got along with her little brother at times. Maddie was a outgoing and inquisitive little girl, and she had a tendency to stick her nose into places where it wasn't wanted and had started to develop a bit of a manipulative streak, due to being rather spoiled. Despite this, she was also a very sweet young girl, having had any type of possible mean streak quickly curbed by her mother, and did truly enjoy helping other people. However, there was one problem in her life; she had a tendency to hear or see things that nobody else could, she would sometimes hear whispers or see a something out of the corner of her eye, something which she never told her parents.
By the time she reached the age of 15, Maddie had become a outgoing and calm-tempered young woman, who was kind and sweet to those she liked and manipulative and cold to those she didn't, though she had a habit of being highly playful and a bit of a prankster. She had become well known for her skills with piano, something she had an almost natural talent with, and enjoyed the small bit of local fame it brought her, though any bit of ego was quickly trampled by her parents and brother. She was well-liked within her school, achieving good grades and getting along with most of the people there. All in all, Maddie was content with her life, even though the strange occurrences from her childhood continued to happen and had also become far more frequent, though she had at this point begun to ignore it. However, a few months after her 15th birthday, Maddie was killed in a fatal car crash and had thus became a ghost, unwilling to cross over as she didn't want to leave her family and felt it was too early for her to do so; after all, she was only 15. And so, she attached herself to her family, though any attempts to interact with them were met with fear as they could not actually see Maddie and assumed that it was just a random haunting. When Maddie was able to make herself visible to them, the only reaction from them was fear and sorrow; after all, she should have passed on. So, they called in a supposed expert on ghosts to try to help her pass on, and the expert advised them to move out of the house before hand, which the family agreed to. And when the family moved out, Maddie didn't follow them, though not because she wanted to but because she had no choice. The so-called expert on ghosts screwed up the ritual which was meant to help her pass on and instead she was bound to the house.
And so Maddie spent a few years on her own, entertaining herself by playing the old piano left in the attic and looking through all the old journals and books also left up there. When a new family moved into the house, Maddie once again tried to interact with them but once again, they reacted with fear and swiftly left. This cycle continued for many years, and yet Maddie kept trying to talk them; she had no desire to harm anybody and her curiosity about the new people made her wish to know more about them. But after the first few decades, she changed her tactics; she wanted to see what different reactions she could provoke from people, since if she could make them feel fear, what else could she do. So, she soon began to prank the inhabitants of the house, though the pranks were always harmless but Maddie's pranks did end up driving people out of house more quickly. But in the end, she felt like this was the only way she could interact with others, since she only received fear when she showed herself, plus she found them to be a spark of fun in her otherwise dull after-life.
However, this all changed when a particular family moved into the house, Verona and Isaac Brisbane along with their daughter, Elicia. Just like Maddie when she was alive, they all possessed a powerful sixth sense and were intrigued about the stories of the house being haunted. At first Maddie did what she usually did, playing harmless pranks on them to see how they would react, but instead of reacting with fear or panic, the family were gleeful and urged her to approach them. After a while, she eventually showed herself to them and they respond enthusiastically, much to Maddie's surprise. The family, while being highly eccentric, were friendly and happily chatted to Maddie, not at all put off by the fact that she's a ghost and were instead interested in her. Over time, Maddie began to show herself to them more and more until, after a years or so since the family moved into the house, Maddie was around them all the time. She greatly valued their company, and became especially fond of Elicia, who soon became something like a little sister to her and soon the Brisbane family became her family as well.
Personality:
Maddie is a strange young woman. Her general demeanour is rather blank and emotionless; her face rarely ever shows any type of expression and instead always remains completely deadpan, and when you combine this with her completely dull and lifeless voice, it's difficult to tell what she's thinking or feeling. Maddie is also rather polite and formal in the way she talks, which results in her coming across as rather distant and aloof. Basically on first impressions, Maddie comes across as a cold and emotionless young woman with apparently little or no interest in anything that happens around her.
Despite her apparent apathy, the truth is that Maddie is anything but apathetic. Underneath the cold demeanour, Maddie is a curious and inquisitive young woman with a great interest in what's around her. If she spots something new and interesting, she go and examine it, and could stare at it for hours if it really does catch her interest, and this can also apply to people. She can easily just sit and watch people who catch her interest, though due to her lack of actually interacting with people and how people usually reacted in feat towards her, she is always unsure of how to approach others. Though thanks to the influence of the Brisbanes, she's slowly gaining a bit more confidence, but there's still a great deal of hesitancy when it comes to actually interacting with others in other ways besides playing pranks on them.
Her tendency to play pranks shows that despite how cold she seems, Maddie is a playful and mischievous young woman; basically she is still very much a teenager despite technically being over 100 years old. She can be very teasing towards people she has become fond of, and has a very broad and wide sense of humour, so she finds most things amusing. As such, it is very difficult to make fun of her, as she herself would also find it funny in the process. She rather enjoys using her abilities as a ghost to play tricks on people and then observing their reactions to them, as people react in different ways and Maddie fins it interesting to see what reactions she can pull from them. And as a result of watching the reactions of people over the years, she's become highly perceptive and can tell if someone is lying or faking what they're feeling. But Maddie is not malicious, as she never intends to hurt anybody with her pranks and if somebody reacts in an extremely negative manner, then she will back off; she may be playful, but she isn't cruel. Maddie is a friendly young woman, and does not mean to be cruel to anybody unless pushed or she genuinely dislikes them. In those situations she can be very cold and manipulative, though her anger is very quiet and cold, though she's hard to anger due to having a very mild and even temper, and she wouldn't be above hurting someone if she felt they deserved it.
Though after spending so many years on her own, Maddie has become very distant, distrustful of others and rarely speaks much, as she deliberately keeps people distant from her. This is where her formal way of speaking and apparently emotionless demeanour comes from; an attempt to not let people get too close to her. This attitude comes from the fact that she doesn't wish to see anybody she cares about grow old and then die, which would once again leave her alone. But despite this, Maddie is very lonely and wishes to have people she can talk to, people to care about and who would care about her in return, but she feels it's better to be alone rather than to have someone and then lose them. Her relationship with the Brisbanes, however, has made her a bit more hopeful about reaching out to others, and now she's a bit more willing to try. When it actually comes to talking to others, Maddie is a distant but friendly young woman who is not exactly talkative, but tends to use body language instead to try and get her message across. As a result of her interest in people, she's interested in what anybody else has to say and may end up bombarding them with questions, though if she's interacting with someone who rubs her the wrong way, she just ignores them and walks away; she tends to have little interest in people who are overly arrogant or are 'all bark and no bite.' And due to her great love of the piano, she will become almost gleeful (though she won't show it) at being able to talk about it and it's one of the very few things she will talk at length about.
Maddie is also highly creative, as shown in her skills with the piano and has quite the imagination. She's able to sit down somewhere and let her thoughts wander for hours, either coming up with new songs for the piano or letting her imagination take over and come up with stories that would entertain her for hours. If there's one thing Maddie likes just as much as the piano, it's reading and listening to stories, both fictional and non-fictional, and Maddie can usually be found with her nose buried in a book about knights and dragons. This also means that the stories that people have are of great interest to her, though she won't pry if they don't wish to tell her, but she will happily listen if people are willing to tell her. And when it comes to the piano, Maddie loves any chance at being able to talk about it and is very confident in her skills with the piano, almost to the point of arrogance. Maddie is basically a curious, creative but lonely young woman who keeps people at a distance, despite wishing to know more about them.
Extra:
Character Abilities: Maddie is, well, a ghost, so she's able to walk through solid objects, float and teleport. Though due to the high amount of spiritual power she possess, she is able to take a solid form and possesses powerful telekinesis, making her capable of throwing objects such as cars with ease. She is also able to talk to people telepathically, which is her preferred way of speaking to others, since she hasn't actually physically talked in over 100 years.
Also, due to the training she received as a human and talent, she is very skilled at playing the piano.
Possessions: Besides her clothes, nothing!
Anything else: Noope.

[Welp, after that... interesting experience with the music box, she definitely wasn't home anymore, unless Mr and Mrs Brisbane decided to re-model the whole house... which wouldn't exactly surprise her, but this is too much, even for them.
… But it's impossible, she couldn't be here, it's impossible for her to even leave the house. But here she is, outside the house for the first time in over a century, and it almost scared her. For now, she pushed away her shock and fear, and after having fiddled around with the small circular device she found, she sends a simple message out to the citizens of Splendor.]
What is this place? Where am I?

“Hey, hey, Maddie, look at this!”
The voice of Elicia prompts the ghost to look up from the novel she was reading, her expression blank as always but holding the slightest hint of softness normally reserved for the young girl. Elicia grins at her as she holds up a crude crayon drawing, depicting four stick figures. Maddie stares at it for a moment, before she tilts her head slightly, her silent way of asking what the picture was of. The young girl giggles, and thrusts the picture towards the ghost.
“It's a picture I drew of all of us! We had to draw a picture of our family in class today. See, there's me, mama, papa and you!”
Maddie blinks, surprise filling her as she stares at the picture, though it doesn't show on her face. She though of her as... family? But she's just a ghost, an intruder in their house, she's, well, dead...
“You think of me as a member of your family?” As always, her voice speaks in the girls mind and is dull and hollow, but there is the smallest hint of her surprise in the words. Once again, the young girl giggles and nods happily, a bright smile on her face.
“Of course! You're like my big sister, Maddie. It doesn't matter if you're a ghost, you're still family and I'm sure mama and papa would agree!” Maddie continues to stare at the girl, the sudden swell of emotion that the girl's words brought her catching her off guard. Her eyes look back at the picture; the picture of the Brisbanes and her... the picture of her family. The sudden burst of happiness within her at thinking almost makes her tear up, but she manages to blink it away; for so long she was completely alone and now she has a family again... Her eyes once again moving back to the smiling face of the young girl, she reaches up to place a hand on her head, gently stroking her head. And on her face, although tiny and nearly unnoticeable, is a soft and warm smile.
“Thank you, Elicia.”
