Oooooh, this is haunting. Just lovely. I really enjoyed the image of Elrond holding the candle to the canvas to allow her to finish the painting, almost burning the surface. I really liked this.

Ooh, I love this! The loveliest and saddest part of this piece is the contrast between the boisterous, full Imladris of recollection, and the silent, empty one of the "present." I think overall my favorite bit is the opening, with your description of elf artwork--almost like the talking paintings of Harry Potter, but more subtle and more dangerous.

Feel the chill breath of winter rustling the curtains from a painting of Angband made by one of its few survivors (this is how abstract art was invented. When they came back, they did not see the world the same ever again. The same could be said for some soldiers of other wars, but the cold of Angband never leaves your bones).Love, love, love this idea--who's to say it's not so? I like that the elves would have been the real originators of non-representational art, and that this origin is born from indelible memory. I also like this version of Celebrian as an artist, loving and wholly absorbed in her work. Anything that gives depth and life to a one-liner of a female character is ( ... )
