A/N: Inspired by the Nightwish song "The Siren".
Jack likes to hear the classics quoted. He’s never gotten around to reading any of them - with most there’s no need, because he heard them the first couple of times around - but he likes to hear them quoted.
Toshiko does not have time for them, which is funny (and it isn’t) given how she has fallen foul of them.
She sings out to them, her sweet soft songs of comfort, her fierce, proud songs of praise and glory, almost ignorant of their lure. And one after another they make for her, unheeding of the rocks until it is too late and Toshiko’s laments quiver in the air, sad and sharp.
This likely makes Jack Odysseus, tied down that he may hear her while Ianto and, for the most part, Owen continue their work with blocked ears, but not make to reach her and wreck himself upon those treacherous rocks.
But she isn’t really a siren; she’s a lonely woman with a beautiful voice, who can’t see the rocks beneath her. And he isn’t Odysseus, favourite of the Gods but all too mortal; he is a cursed man who cannot stay down, who longs for death yet clings to life. He listens to her, but he will never go to her.
