Summary: Jack's dreaming again. He wishes he wouldn't.
A/N: Written half an hour to hour after I first watched the finale.
Jack breathes in. Breathes out.
It’s a dream. Just a dream.
Except dreams are never just anything, and this all feels far too real - the cold, hard press of bars against his face, shoulder and chest, the hair-split pain down his arm as he stretched, stretched, stretched - but it wasn’t good enough. He was never good enough.
“Toshiko,” he manages, her name pulled taught from effort or injury. “Toshiko, please, don’t do this -”
She raises the gun. “I have to.” Her words are flat, like propped up cardboard, and it doesn’t ring quite right. “I have to punish him.”
“Tosh…” This isn’t her. It is, but it isn’t.
“He killed me. He asked me how it felt.” She turns and her eyes are blank. Like the dark. They make Jack feel cold. “He wanted to know.” She shoots. Gray falls to the ground, screaming and clutching at his shoulder. “I promised I’d show him.” She shoots again, this time into his leg. “It’s what he wants,” she says. “We punish him and he dies like he always wanted.” She smiles all the way up to her dead eyes and Jack wants to scream. “Everyone’s happy.”
She shoots again, and again and again with a serene smile. Grey jumps and spasms and screams and never once looks to his brother. Jack grips the too-real bars and shuts his eyes, listening as his brother is slowly blown apart.
This isn’t real.
It's just a dream.
He’ll wake up any minute.
God help him when he does.
