Evacuation already beginning ex_treyhawk503 August 31 2005, 04:44:37 UTC
Of course, before the wwltv announcement, they started evacuating people from the Superdome because of the instability of the roof, the lack of electricity, and the overflow of bathroom toilets and urinals.

I've had one of the weirdest job interviews of my life in Slidell in the mid-90's. A research job with a government contractor studying the marshland habitats. Weird not because of the job, but because of the interviewers and other things that happened when I was there. It's my only taste of Louisiana that I can remember.

I had completely forgotten about the interview until I saw the pictures of Slidell today.

One of my friends grew up in Slidell. Her brother evacuated, but his house is in the area under 20 feet of water.

Missed that they're evacuating the superdome. Saw a report of 60K people in there.

She made the request to start clearing out the Superdome in an evening press conference. They say it will take at least two days to evacuate the stadium.

Mental image I wish to all heavens I wasn't having now:

There are places in the Mediterranean coast where you can swim in the clear water... about three yards deep... and look at pieces of Roman columns and masonry lying on the sandy seabed under you, tinted green.

I'm sick.
