Went to Lowe's in Laurel today whimmydiddle September 4 2005, 04:08:46 UTC
The clerk at customer service knew nothing about the matching program & called the manager. After some confusion, the manager indicated yes, they are matching.

Apparently, Lowe's takes Red Cross donations all the time. They have a worn-looking permanent display at customer service encouraging donations, with bar codes for $5, $10, and "random amount" donations. They used the "random amount" bar code for my donation, I wrote the check for Lowes, and they gave me a receipt for my tax folder. It's just a regular Lowe's receipt, and in the item area it simply says "donation." You kind of have to trust that it's going to the Red Cross (I had little problem with that; it seems to be an established ongoing program), and you have to trust that they really are matching. They aren't pushing it too hard; the web site has it in fine print, and the staff doesn't seem to be too aware of it.
