This prompt was perfect for Smudge and Phillip. Alas, I promised to retire them to the novel, so this prompt was a challenge! Watching the consumerism that is Valentine's day, inspired me to write this

*CLAPS* I loved the entire thing! I don't like Valentine's Day at all and your word choices and the relation to Venus & Helen was lovely. Especially the last stanza. Great poem! :D
The spirit of the day is good, but it tends to just boil down to consumerism and expectations that really shouldn't be. I know the hubby loves me. He doesn't need to buy me something to tell me that.
* A Giant African Millipede * Lily of the Valley massage oil (LotV is her favorite scent) * A book on sea glass * Pottery for the home we're going to move into together. * A signed copy of a favorite webcomic she's had as her desktop background for months.
:-) I think that perhaps thoughtfulness and gifts can blend.
That's great! :) Seriously, a millipede? That's so neat! What is the reason behind it, if you don't mind sharing?
They absolutely can. :) That is part of what I meant by thoughtfulness, not just the typical perfume, candy, jewelry and so on. Hard to put all that into a poem without beating the idea to death though. ;)
TOTALLY a millipede. ;-) Unfortunately, the millipede didn't make it, so I'm awaiting its replacement, plus one more, that'll arrive this Friday.
Jessi has terrible luck with pets, especially fish. SHe's a teacher, and her last classroom fish died recently, along with triops she was raising at home. She was pretty upset about it. And there's this:
1. Millipedes can live for up to ten years. 2. They eat vegetables and fruit- so no special meals. 3. They're friendly, can't bite, and are unique.
It was a gamble, definitely, but I had a feeling I knew my fiancee well enough to attempt it.
With unhurried, lingering, attentions To all that maks her woman. You forgot the 'e' in 'makes'. :) But otherwise, this was very effective because it was so simple. I also liked the last 2 lines, but these are my favourite.

Triops are kinda pretty in an odd way. I'd never heard of them before. Thanks! :)
