You don’t trust.
You rely on others. You expect them to do their jobs.
If need be, you can even count on them.
But trust is a bond, a connection, that can be very dangerous to form.
And so you don’t.
Even if you’d like to, which you might, and even if you maybe should, because you know there are people-maybe lots of people-who you should trust, who you’re supposed to trust, who wouldn’t ever hurt you if they could avoid it.
The thing is.
The thing.
It’s that they can’t avoid it. Because there’s this other thing called “Life” and it’s an honest to god bastard sometimes.
So maybe you should trust.
But you don’t.
Except for one thing, perhaps. You trust that you’ll do your best. And you trust that they will, too. Whoever they are. The them that matters, not the they that eats away at sanity and all good things.
So perhaps you trust that one thing.
Or perhaps not.
