Ah, basically the other Holmes sibling--Mycroft refers to someone like this as "the other one" in His Last Vow. I'm just saying I think it's possible Redbeard isn't actually a dog but that s/he was someone important to Sherlock and who died in a traumatizing way. Wellthengameover has written a lenghty meta on it at this link that I really like.

Janine could be Moriarty's twin, of course! Just the fact that Sherlock repeatedly says, "It's never twins" makes me think it probably is. :) But it could also be Mary herself.

Too soon for me to have any coherent theories (beyond SQUEEEEEEEEEEE :D:D:D:D!)

YESSS, I am so happy and squeeing. So much Johnlock to love.

Yay, glad you read it! Only time will tell with these sorts of things, but it's really fun to speculate.

Redbeard could symbolise a lot, including a brother, or be a real dog that was there at the same time as a brother, or lots more.

Yup! At any rate, clearly there's something a bit more to Redbeard than just a cute dog from Sherlock's past. Though he really is very cute! :)

I admit I have a thing for 100%-bad-to-the-bone-evil!Mary as well as good!Mary or morally ambiguous!Mary, but she's such a fun character that I don't mind whichever way it turns out.

That's an interesting theory! I admit, I find the whole 'the other one' too cryptic and difficult to deal with, so I've been avoiding it *g*

There's certainly a lot to deconstruct in the new ep, for those people who are into it!

EDIT: MOLLY. FUCKING. HOOPER.

I could not agree more with this. The moment Hooper came on with the mustache and hair I started grinning like a madman. And then later, when she confronted Holmes! A very brilliant way of working Brealey into the special, imo.

Yesssss, "grinning like a madman" was me exactly--once I recognized her! I cackled. Can you believe, I honestly didn't recognize her for a few seconds and was like, "Who's that cute pathologist guy...ah...oops..."

I'm still thinking that Sherlock must have recognized her, surely? But maybe the point is that he wasn't paying enough attention to her to notice more than superficial things, just like in the modern day, until she reveals her true self to him. But I love her so much!

But didn't they explicitly rule out the twin theory?

Anyway, join you in the general squee. Did have some misgivings but on the whole they pretty much erased the vile taste S3 left in my mouth.

And YAY for so much almost blatant Holmescest.

The fact that they explicitly ruled out the twin theory...makes me think that it may be the actual answer...haha. Or triplets. (Mary Moriarty and Janine Moriarty?)

And YAY for so much almost blatant Holmescest.

I drooled, omg. Just when I think I can't be spoiled any further...even in the gross scene with the fatsuit, Sherlock and Mycroft are still pretty hardcore flirting. :)
