Did you see the three hint words for next season?? Thatcher--Smith--Sherrinford...are we getting that 3rd Holmes sibling after all? The possibilities are endless!
Thatcher was essentially stabbed in the back so I think we'll see Mycroft fighting for his position and his life. Sherrinford immediately reminded me of that wonderful fic by Polyphony, the Best of Times, yes, definitely a younger and happier third brother. Smith? Smith and Wesson maybe?
In The Adventure of the Dying Detective, one Culverton Smith is the bad guy and Holmes has to act very sick in order to catch him...maybe in this one Sherlock is actually sick?? He certainly doesn't look good in the trailer scene...
And Mrs. Hudson was not happy with Mycroft there. I'm just terrified they will kill Mycroft and I will cry buckets.
My Fearless Forecast is that the season will include a treatment of The Valley of Fear, as it is the fourth and last novel-length Holmes story, and they've done the other three in the first three seasons. (iirc, Moriarty figures in it but does not personally appear.)

You have piqued me to reread the Dying Detective story. Now I wonder if they are going to conflate that with The Valley of Fear, in which one character fakes his own death. The parade of nurses in the trailer certainly does imply the illness of somebody!
And in passing, has there been a Baby Watson or not? I didn't see any indication one way or the other...
I just really hope if they do those two stories that Sherlock doesn't keep any more secrets from John (and especially doesn't fake his death to John again!!). That would be so unfair to John. But if John were in on it, maybe that would be all right.
According to setlock, a baby (or doll) in pink has been seen once in an outdoor scene. That doesn't mean the baby is real, though, as it could have been a mind palace sequence.
