I haven't read that theory explicitly, but I was joking to someone that the only way I could "believe" this ep was for at least some of the scenes to have taken place in Sherlock's MP/be a result of him being high. I think in show terms it would be a cop-out, but at the same time I wouldn't entirely disapprove *g*
There are other theories too which would account for the weirdness in the episode! It feels like the writers are always building things up and trying to trick us in ways that are supposed to be fun in the end...but can be painful at the time!
I'm on Tumblr, of course I've heard of EMP. My preferred read on TST is we're in Sherlock's head and he's been drugged so his perceptions are all off. But that's really because I want Mary over and done with. (I know, I know - love the potential, hate the execution.)
I will say, it does feel like Sherlock's still trying on possibilities here and as much as they've played with fake-death and not-quite-dead, I wouldn't put EMP past Mofftiss.
I'd find it extremely disappointing, I think. There were undoubtedly some serious and presumably deliberate diversions from realism in that last ep but then that might just have been Mark Gatiss who does love playing around with his narratives.
On the other hand there were all of those rather marvellous and unlikely sets. I know Sherlock has always had fun with set dressing but they really did pull out all the stops this time. Mycroft's office was in particular totally impractical and beautiful. If anything was to convince me that this was a fiction it would be this week's sets. People behave oddly all the time, and unknown plot might account for a lot, but nothing would really account for Mycroft reading all his secret papers under a huge great open grill!
The sets!!! Yes, great point. I've read theories where the episode is Sherlock recalling to Ella all the events leading up to his estrangement from John, which is why they're not as real-seeming and are definitely more dramatic. "Marvellous and unlikely"! :)
I wish the first theory were true, except that I'd like to think Sherlock is still locked in a cell in Serbia and the whole Mary drama didn't happen at all :)

I'm still holding out hope that Mary does turn out to be a villain or working for Moriarty in the end, but I'm willing to go along with Mofftiss. :)
