Honestly, I would buy the DVDs. That way you're guaranteed to have a hard copy, and it comes in a nice little boxed-set case which is easier to keep track of than a bunch of random burned DVDs. As far as I know, you can always make a backup copy of what's on the DVDs to your hard drive, as well, though I might be wrong there.
