Haven't updated in a minute. Let's see, what have I been up to (besides backsliding and trying to get back on course, life-wise).
Well, me and Kay went to see Watchmen early on Friday.
So. Amazing. Maybe my opinion is clouded because I was just happy to be watching it, but whatever the case I loved every minute of it. At the moment, though, my thoughts on Watchmen are disjointed ramblings containing liberal use of the words 'awesome' and 'blue penis!' So in lieu of actual coherent analysis, here, have random thoughts on it and a fun video at the end.
-Kay told me that it was hard for her to take Rorschach seriously at first (and kept thinking "yes, my mother's a whore!" during all of his scenes) because I showed her
this beforehand. That is understandable: I could not help thinking "and I will whisper 'here you go, little guy" and snickering under my breath in a scene where I do not think snickering or any type of amusement at all is the intended reaction. xD
-Interestingly enough, the scene that stirred the most emotion in me was not the rape scene or Rorschach's death, but Dollar Bill's. Something about his body slumped against the revolving doors really got to me and I couldn't shake the image. (That, and shooting the hippies. Holy fuck.)
-My favorite part of seeing Watchmen may be the fact that because of it Kay developed a Rorschach impression that is simply glorious. It is equal parts hilarious as it is alarming when she randomly snarls "my mother was a whore!" at me, as strange as that sentence sounds. xD
-Ozymandias'
nipple armor is my second favorite character, beaten only by giant blue buttocks of doom and followed closely by Nite Owl's pretty girly mouth. It was a close race, and unfortunately Adrien's shiny purple suit didn't make the cut, as purple and shiny and delightfully gay as it was.
-Rorschach's capture and prison scenes were excellent. My favorite, I think. Jackie Earle Haley stole the show. He "kilt that shit."
-Bubastis!
-Soundtrack, fuck yeah.
-The opening montage. Good way to provide necessary back story quickly and efficiently. Good song choice too.
-Dr. Manhattan sounded different than I expected (though I wasn't sure what I expected), but the soft spoken way of speaking grew on me very quickly and I really liked his performance, overall.
-Rorschach's death scene. I was dreading it the whole movie. I was wary at first, when he was whispering and a bit weepy, but then he yelled and made the crazy face and it was perfect and painful.
-Little Walter being a rabid little howler monkey. When he leapt on those kids I may have died. (If some kid called my mom a whore I would have bit his face off too.)
-The handshake was there! I love dysfunctional friendships and I'm glad that it made the cut.
-On the other hand, I am very sad that
this gem was not in the movie. I think it would have made my year.
-I think the only thing I didn't like in the entire movie is the sex scene with Dan and Laurie. I know there has to be a shitload of footage they had to cut out so the movie wasn't six hours long, and I'm not sure who decided that Dan and Laurie's sex faces and a five second close up of Dan's gyrating arse should make the cut. Needless to say, I disagree. xD The thing with the slipped foot and Archie's flame thrower always makes me roll my eyes.
-Not directly related to the movie, but I want
this. So yes. Coherency later. For now, have this random fun video:

After the movie we went back to Kay's house and played with the Rorschach game ("Hats. I like them." Ok, Rorschach. I, too, long for a time where people were decent and they didn't kill each other and women weren't filthy whores and people wore hats. Give me a fedora and I will show you a utopia). Decided that Silhouette kicks ass and, as such, should have her own movie. Watched movies. Fell asleep on couch while watching the 40 y/o Virgin. Got attacked by cat while sleeping. Do not particularly care for cat. (That's a bitch move, cat.)
I'm supposed to have band practice later but to be honest I'm not really looking forward to it. I don't know, I might opt out. Ideally, go see Watchmen again, lol.
