I had similar feelings about this episode. This statement rang true for me: "I think 'the characters learn about fandom' always makes for a better fic than actual episode". While some of the references to fandom were very funny, others were borderline insulting. Referencing a real fan (in a negative way) falls into the latter category

It seems (I'm thinking of the references to the Fritzl case here as well) the writers are becoming more bold in their real-world references and aren't taking into account who could be hurt because of the glass shield called fiction.
Yes. It's a very thin line, I think, and in most cases it's probably best not to go there at all.
Shit, I'd be happy with even a random cop in the background. Anything, because the absence is very glaring and off-putting (to me, at least).
