Alia's passing led me to spend a bunch of time this weekend remembering people, activities, and modes of connecting from a dozen years ago. Folks have had major victories and setbacks, they've broken up and got married, they've had kids or their kids have grown up. But they're all crystalized in my mind either as they were the last time we hung out around a campfire or in someone's living room, or else the last time I kept up with their LiveJournal.
There are a lot of folks I haven't seen since the end of the Bush administration and a lot of things I miss about the Internet from before the Facebook era. For most folks, nostalgia is strongest for the way things were in their twenties.
