I'll do a full AU rundown a la Moroccoverse, later, but right now, I just want to put this up here. Because the muse started rambling at me, and I loved it

There is no one definitive answer to the question of humanity - to what sets us apart, and unifies us, all at once. Some say it is the soul. Some point to art, or emotion. Still others quantify man's capacity for analytical thought. Yet these are qualities that could easily be argued or proven in other species. Some argue it is our belief in higher powers. In God, or a series of benevolent or vengeful spirits that guide us through our lives. In fate.

But then, is fate not, in its own way, a deity of its own? Surely such a power guided the hands of the gods as well, held them in its sway just as surely as we are pulled by it. When we are given a choice, the sort that could change our lives, we can feel the riptides of fate and change pulling the sand from beneath our feet. Our landscape shifts, and we look with new eyes. The challenge, and the choice, is this: do we fight the tide, or let it guide us? With each choice, the currents pull us in different directions. A wave just as easily destined for Madras brushes against the shores of Staten Island. A quiet, yearning breeze whipped by weather patterns into something far stronger, a storm now threatening to break. And in these slow yet sudden changes, we inevitably see something that frightens us, or something we regret. Something we may have forgotten or ignored. Some may even see a stranger in their own eyes.

But that is the true beauty of humanity. Our destinies are intertwined, and only partially fixed. Occasionally, we have the opportunity to look back at the choices we have made, to examine the pattern of our own tides, and see how it may come back to repeat. And we can take the hands that reach out to us, and let them guide us to a force that can truly change our fate.

The force of a second chance.
