That Good Night (the end)

Wow. Where did that last five years go?

I last updated this story in early 2009, and even before that my writing had slowed to a trickle, just a chapter a year for several years. But I never quite admitted to myself that I had abandoned this story; I kept thinking "someday, maybe, I'll finish it ( Read more... )

Now I must reread.

Aw, that's the sweetest thing you could possibly say to me! :-)

I've just found this - I too followed this story sequence for ages and was always hopeful that you would get round to finishing it in the end. Thank you so much for doing this. I've copied it into Word and am saving it up to reread the whole thing on holiday on my Kindle - a special treat!

Hi there! It's lovely to know that you've enjoyed my story, and I find it absolutely flattering that you'd choose it for holiday reading! :-)

By the way, if you read fic on Kindle -- did you know that when you view a fic on AO3 (for instance, here's That Good Night) there's a "download" button at the top of the story that lets you download the whole thing in .mobi format for the Kindle?

Yes, I do use that - I download mobis from AO3 all the time. It's a fantastic feature. Makes life so much easier for us dedicated fic readers!

Thank you for providing closure. Fragments are one of my favorite stories, and I don’t even like spander. Well, I didn’t - before I read your fics. Guess that was you who corru… converted me)
And especially thank you for the happy ending. “This time I saved the world by not dying” - that line is just genius.

Oh, you're very welcome! I'm particularly flattered to get credit for your conversion to the Spander side. :-) (You know, I'm pretty sure the reason I got so into Spander in the first place was because the first Buffyverse fic I ever read was Sidelines by Eliade.)

I love that story, too, but you were my first)
And by the way, huge thanks for you recs. I’m going through that rec list on your site for the last few months, it’s a great help. (Guess, I’m an ultimate slowpoke - new and very late at the fandom)

Oh, you're welcome! It's cool to know that someone's still getting some use out of them. I haven't updated that site in years! (Hey, if you happen across any dead links, feel free to let me know.)

I only just found this if you can believe it, I actually had a dream that prompted me to look at your journal to see if this story had been updated, and for a second I honestly couldn't be sure I wasn't still dreaming. Please pardon me if I come off a little incoherent in my commentary.

Thank you so much for giving us closure on this story. The Fragments series has long been one of my favorites, but this one in particular. It's rare among fanfic (at least to me) in that it's such a complete immersion experience -- the futures you've envisioned for everyone, their voices... all of it feels so right, and -- struggling for the right words here -- the characters still think about how to be heroes. I love that you brought up the issue of poverty in Sao Paulo, of Xander's jealously, of the pros and cons of treatment for terminal cases... all things that real people struggle with, as well as the supernatural stuff. (Drusilla frozen in the landing gear! Great image -- that really gave me a shiver.) And the reveal about the Shanshu, and the ( ... )
