Have you ever just totally underestimated something?

I was like, "Oh, it's just art appreciation. I don't need to work very hard to nail the first critique."

Thankfully, the first critique is only worth 30 points out of 600.  I got a C on it. Awwww yeah. I think that's the first C I've gotten on anything in college. Weak. I totally deserved ( Read more... )

That's rough! Isn't art pretty subjective anyways?

We'll make sure you have time to work on your class this next week.

But don't underestimate my love for you....

I think I would "appreciate" art more if we could combine your love for me and art. So, in the name of studying, we're going to have to get some body paint and a really large white sheet. I have an idea. :o)

XOXOX

And, yeah...I got a 73 on "art writing," which apparently, has comas, placed in all the wrong places. And uses really, really horrible grammar and sentance structure and spelling, to emphasise drivel about the content, of the art.

My book has really taught me a lot about appreciating art and the world itself as art, though! In Chapter 1 the book teaches the differences between 'looking and seeing'! It says, "If we care only about function, we simply need to look quickly at a doorknob in order to grasp and turn it. But when we get excited about the shape and finish of a doorknob, or the bright clear quality of a winter day, we go beyond the simple functional looking to a higher level of perception called 'seeing'."

BABY!!!! LOOK! IT'S A DOORKNOB!!! *bounce!*

I hate this bloody book.

Take it from someone with a Bachelor's in Studio Art - it's all drivel. Art Appreciation is the study of art critic doubletalk and the specific form of propaganda that creates careers for otherwise untalented artsy types. It's kinda like playing an elaborate game of Balderdash, with your GPA depending on the outcome. Once you get into the spirit of things, you can breeze through it.
