I cannot imagine that this is a product of an idle wish to be elsewhere.  I've wished such a thing many times before and have never ended up in such a place.

...I will say this method of communication is odd and I dislike ( Read more... )

It's only a little walkie-talkie. It could be worse.

It could have been a Pontiac Aztec. Talk about ugly and unnecessary designs.

I am unfamiliar with that of which you speak.

But in any case, where have you brought me and for what purpose?

Me?

I like you. You're flattering.

Your superiors, then. Is this Silarial's jest? To kidnap me before my coronation in hopes that the annoyance will prompt me where swordpoint has not?

Come now, reveal it. I'm tired of games.

Human technology as a whole is a bit behind the times. Most of the devices are faulty and like to broadcast when you don't want to, but they are good for communication.

There is nothing wrong with quill and paper.

[He's puzzling over the network communicator, gloved fingers holding it gingerly like it might explode if he should press a wrong button. The people, he ignores largely as they seem to ignore him. Though one is staring...

He bends slightly at the waist in a bow. Enough for acknowledgment without obeisance.]

[A bow. A quaint greeting used only now for dances and social events. The female equivalent is a curtsy, so she takes hold of the edges of her skirt and draws quite a graceful one for someone who had never done it before. She enjoys it because it used to signal the coming of a dance and although it might have lost its meaning, the momentary hope is enough]

[If this had been the Bright Court a dance would not be out of the question. But Roiben has not danced for his own pleasure in years and is not about to take up the task with strangers. Her curtsy suggests gentry. Blunt as his tongue may be now, he still remembers the courtly graces.]

Greetings, lady. Will you tarry?

No more irksome than anything else, but less comprehensible, I fear.
