This is a real test in loyalty to my own principles. About a month ago a local grocery store (which has gas pumps out front) ran a special where you could buy $100 in gift cards for various chain stores and they would give you $1 per gallon off a tank of gas. Oh, I'm totally with you on the desire to stay away from Lowe's. Their behavior has been outrageous.

Since gift cards don't expire, and since you seem to be able to afford an extra $100 right now, can you carry through your Home Depot shopping plan and hold on to the gift card in the hope that Lowe's someday grows a spine/conscience? My other suggestions are to go back to the store where you bought it and see if they'll exchange it for a different type of gift card (probably a longshot), or to donate the gift card to a worthy cause that could use it (if the cause involves Muslims, so much the better).

Yeah, my plan is to stick it in a drawer and hope that some day Lowes comes to its senses. I quite like the thought of giving it to a Muslem charity, but none of the Muslems I know would be seen in that store either right now.

The best part is that yesterday I bought the fire pit at Home Depot on sale for $40 less than it costs at Lowes!

Yay for a sale! :D

Hopefully you'll be able to use the gift card someday in good conscience, but if not, at least you stuck by your principles. That's a great gift to give yourself!

Merry Christmas!
